Fantasy derby picks from Manchester United vs Manchester City and Everton vs. Liverpool feature in our Super Sunday tips
This Sunday offers up an absolute feast of Premier League fixtures, giving us fantasy football managers another opportunity to get our teeth stuck in to some serious action, courtesy of our friends at Starting 11.
With TWO local derby fixtures and Southampton vs. Arsenal to pick our fantasy line-ups from, we’re spoilt for choice aren’t we fantasy bosses, so we’ve called upon @FFPundits_Drew to help us pick a spine to our Sunday lineups.
With this in mind, I’ll be giving you, our loyal readers, my fantasy Core 4 players to own, that will feature in my Starting 11 fantasy team, but are also worthy picks for other fantasy football game formats, such as FPL and Sky Fantasy.
Roberto Firmino vs. Everton (H)
Having scored 33 goals this season, the 3rd highest behind the two Manchester clubs, Liverpool’s free-flowing attack has been a joy to watch at times this season.
Whilst Mohamed Salah has stolen the spot light, a return to form for Roberto Firmino has earned him a place in my Core 4 Starting 11 picks this week.
An impressive 2 goals and an assist away to Sevilla in the Champions League was followed up with another 2 goals away to Brighton in Gameweek 15.
The Brazilian is becoming an option for fantasy bosses again on Starting 11 as well as fitting into that mid-range striker price bracket over on FPL.
Everton were touted to be the surprise package this season after a summer of spending on high-profile signings – however, their fans have been left disappointed with their side conceding the 3rd highest goals this season (28) and manager Ronald Koeman being given his marching orders.
The announcement of ‘Big Sam’ brought with it a change in attitude – securing 2 wins from their last 2 games, meaning Sunday’s derby is likely to be a brilliant game for the neutrals.
Despite Everton’s improvement, I expect Liverpool to be too much for them on Sunday and for Firmino to benefit from the form of Salah and Coutinho, providing generous returns for fantasy managers.
Kevin De Bruyne vs. Manchester United (A)
Whilst the Liverpool vs Everton game is likely to be a free-flowing affair, I expect the Manchester Derby to be a tight one due to Jose Mouinho’s tactics during the bigger games, cancelling out a majority of City’s attack.
A key player in this tight game will be ‘Mr Assist’ otherwise known as Kevin De Bruyne, who’s currently topping the assist charts again this season with 8, in addition to his 4 goals.
I expect set-pieces to be key on Sunday afternoon – opportunities De Bruyne will be heavily involved in whether he is searching for attacking players, or taking on the inform De Gea directly.
The Belgian is fresh due to his Champions League suspension for picking up 3 yellow cards, which ruled him out of the midweek trip to the Ukraine.
If I could have only one Manchester City player in my Starting 11 fantasy team this Sunday, KDB would be my pick.
Sead Kolasinac vs. Southampton (A)
Dubbed the ‘budget Alonso’ at the beginning of the season, Kolasinac continues to hug that touch-line providing width when Alexis Sanchez cuts inside.
With 3 clean sheets in his last 4 games, Kolasinac is racking up the points in addition to his attacking threat each week.
Arsenal’s defensive record improved dramatically with the return of Shkodran Mustafi, who has a record of 7 clean sheets in 8 appearances when he has played the full 90 minutes. Impressive.
After picking up a knock last week vs Manchester United, Mustafi is expected to return for the trip to Southampton, meaning Kolasinac’s chances of picking up a clean sheet increases greatly.
Kolasinac has only 1 league goal to his name this season – however, he now ranks 3rd in the number of shots by defenders with 15, so continues to be a threat.
Petr Cech vs. Southampton (A)
As usual, I am looking to put all my eggs in one basket with another defensive stack in my Starting 11 line-up on Sunday, so Petr Cech joins Kolasinac this week as I go big on an Arsenal defence.
As mentioned earlier, Arsenal have 3 clean sheets in their last 4 games, largely due to fact that they only face on average 9.4 shots per game, the 4th best record in the Premier League.
When you then take into consideration Southampton only average 3 shots on target per game, the 5 lowest in the league, the odds suggest Arsenal should be keeping the Saints out on Sunday.
With a total of 7 clean sheets this season I expect us to see number 8 on Sunday.
