Fantasy Premier League Captain Tips - Gameweek 7 Picks

11:15pm Sep 26 2017

Premium contenders from Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester United feature in @DannyBryan27’s Captain Tips for Gameweek 7

As Gameweek 7 approaches, FPL bosses up and down the land are faced with that weekly dilemma once again – who to captain?

Here, we’ve looked at three of the possible leading candidates for your captaincy role, as well as one which may be considered a ‘gamble’.

Our first three selections are all in fantastic goal-scoring form, and have favourable Gameweek 7 fixtures – leaving you spoilt for choice and no-doubt agonising over your final decision right up until Saturday’s deadline.

Meanwhile, our gamble pick re-announced himself with a stunning individual display in Gameweek 6, making him an extremely tempting option worth considering.

As always, I wish all FPL bosses the very best of luck.

Romelu Lukaku – Manchester United [£11.7m]

Jose Mourinho’s big-money summer signing continues to deliver. The Belgian took his Premier League goal tally for the season to six in Gameweek 6, as United edged past Southampton at St.Mary’s.

The Red Devils return to Old Trafford in Gameweek 7, where they will face a Crystal Palace side bereft of confidence after their latest defeat – a 5-0 hammering by United’s cross-town rivals Manchester City in Gameweek 6.

With only goal difference separating the two Manchester clubs at the top of the table, you can be sure that United will go for the jugular against Palace, in much the same way that City did, making Lukaku an obvious contender for your captain’s armband this time around as United’s most potent goal-threat.

The former Everton man has scored three times in his last four appearances against the Eagles, and there’s every chance he’ll build on that record here.

What’s more, an already beleaguered Palace defence will be without the so-far ever-present Timothy Fosu-Mensah – on-loan from United – who is ineligible to feature against his parent club.

So, with that in mind, is Lukaku your chosen one for Gameweek 7, or do you have someone else in mind? Let’s look at some other options.

Harry Kane – Spurs [£12.5m]

The majority of FPL bosses have been forced to choose between Lukaku and Kane, due to their extortionate price-tags. The debate surrounding the pair has become almost tribal.

As such, your captaincy selection will most probably depend on which one of these FPL heavyweights you’ve already put your faith in.

Kane owners will no-doubt be buoyed by his recent form, with four goals in his last three Premier League outings. Spurs have fared better away from home so far this season, and they’re on the road again in Gameweek 7 – this time against Huddersfield.

All of Kane’s goals have come in Spurs’ last two away outings, including a brace in their Gameweek 6 victory at the London Stadium against rivals West Ham.

The England striker is back on-form after a quiet opening month to the season, and has a good chance of adding to his tally against a Huddersfield side who are without a win in four.

David Wagner’s side have managed an impressive four clean-sheets from a possible six, however this represents by far their toughest test – their first encounter against one of last season’s top seven, and I fully expect Mauricio Pochettino’s men to be too strong on this occasion.

With this in mind, Kane should be a genuine contender for your captaincy, but do you fancy him to outscore Lukaku in Gameweek 7? It’s a tough call.

Alexandre Lacazette – Arsenal [£10.3m]

If you’ve completely distanced yourself from the Kane/Lukaku conundrum and are on the lookout for a slight differential for Gameweek 7, then Alexandre Lacazette is the perfect option.

Arsenal’s record signing just loves playing at the Emirates, finding the net at least once on each of his three appearances there since signing from Lyon in the summer.

The Frenchman bagged 13 points in Arsenal’s Gameweek 6 victory over West Brom, taking his FPL points tally to 30 for the season.

The Gunners have responded superbly since their Gameweek 3 drubbing at Liverpool, and remain unbeaten since then.

Gameweek 7 sees Brighton travel to North London – the visitors have managed just one point from their opening three Premier League away fixtures, and I struggle to see them adding to that solitary point here.

So while the majority of your rivals are fawning over Lukaku and Kane, why not place your faith in a player who is in excellent form, but is now being overlooked by almost 90% of FPL bosses?

In Lacazette you may just have found your game-changer.

The Gamble

Philippe Coutinho – Liverpool [£8.8m]

Imagine we arrive at a situation where Crystal Palace have somehow stifled Lukaku, Kane has been muzzled by the Terriers, and Lacazette fails to overcome a spirited Brighton rearguard.

All eyes focused on the final fixture of Gameweek 7, as thousands of FPL bosses hope for a late flurry of points after the big-hitters failed to fire. Our most likely saviour? Step forward, Liverpool’s sought-after Brazilian.

In many ways, Philippe Coutinho has become the forgotten man of FPL; an injury in pre-season coinciding with intense speculation surrounding his future led many FPL bosses to search elsewhere.

However, the former Inter Milan midfielder has recently returned to full-fitness and was back to his brilliant best, weighing in with a goal and an assist, as Liverpool edged past Leicester in Gameweek 6.

If you’d have captained him last week, you’d have bagged yourself 26 points – a greater return than was experienced by those who gave the armband to some of the traditional household names, including Kane, Lukaku, Eriksen, Alli, Silva, and Aguero.

So, are you tempted to gamble on a repeat performance in Gameweek 7, as Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to Newcastle?

Coutinho is currently selected by just 5.1% of FPL bosses at the time of writing, so a high-scoring Gameweek from the Brazilian international would most certainly set your apart from your rivals.
