All eyes on Spurs and Manchester United, as Kane and Lukaku look set to be red-hot captaincy contenders for Gameweek 12
When it comes to Fantasy Premier League, we cannot control the wind, but we can adjust the sails – so is now the time to get creative and think outside the box when choosing your weekly captaincy candidate?
There are some tasty captain options for Gameweek 12, which will surely cause FPL managers a headache, but we’re here to help break down the premium options and throw in a cheeky punt for you to ponder.
I have steered clear of Manchester City assets for Gameweek 12 as Pep Guardiola continues to frustrate.
They may be the form team in the Premier League so far this season, but can you risk handing that precious captains armband to a potential 1 point cameo?
Below are my captain picks for what looks like a potentially high scoring Gameweek so, as always, I wish all of our loyal readers and newcomers, the very best of luck for the weekend and may your arrows be green.
1. Harry Kane vs. Arsenal (a)
After missing Gameweek 10 through injury, followed up by a blank in Gameweek 11, we are expecting a solid points haul from Harry during the North London Derby.
Arsenal are now 6th in the Premier League, however they have conceded 16 goals this season, more than the likes of West Brom, Bournemouth and Swansea who find themselves in and around the relegation zone.
After suffering a minor knee injury vs Crystal Palace, Kane sat out the international break and reports suggest he is fit and ready for Gameweek 12.
Harry Kane’s record vs Arsenal is outstanding, scoring 6 goals in his last 5 Premier League games vs the Gunners and looks set to be the top captaincy candidate in this weeks Gameweek 12 Captains Poll.
The bookies are expecting big things from him this weekend too, as according to several Premier League betting apps, Kane is currently the EVEN money favourite Anytime Scorer against Arsenal.
It’s also worth noting, for those still concerned over Kane’s home (Wembley form) that he scored 2, assisted 1 and picked up 3 bonus points in Spurs’ 4-1 home win against Liverpool in Gameweek 9, which resulted in 32 points as captain.
Some may say the ship has already sailed when it comes to owning Kane, but with a hefty £12.8m price-tag, he’s still surprising owned by only 38.6% of FPL bosses and is worth grabbing for Spurs’ tasty looking Christmas fixture list.
Anchor him in to your side, throw the armband on him and let the good times roll people.
2. Romelu Lukaku vs. Newcastle (h)
After impressive form lead to several price rises over the first few weeks of the new Fantasy Premier League season, but many have lost patience and faith with the Belgian, who’s value has reverted back to his starting price of £11.5m.
I’m surprised to see Lukaku is still owned by 47.5% of FPL bosses, as Big Rom has failed to score in his last 4 Premier League outings for Manchester United this season – granted, many of these are dormant FPL teams where folk have given up.
In this week’s Saturday evening kick-off under the flood lights at Old Trafford, the Manchester United will host a Newcastle side that has won only 1 of their last 6 games.
This is the first of 3 favourable fixtures for Jose Mourinho’s side before facing Arsenal and Manchester City, so if you plan on captaining Lukaku over Kane for a week or two, now would be the time to do it.
Update: Newcastle goalkeeper Robert Elliot has this week been withdrawn from International Duty due to a family bereavement – if he isn’t available for Saturday’s game, things could go Lukaku’s way.
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to Rob Elliott and his family.
3. Mohamed Salah vs. Southampton (h)
Is the Egyptian now a must own at this stage of the season?
40.1% of you own him and he’s now the 3rd most popular player on the Fantasy Premier League game, but do you consider him a safe weekly captain pick?
With the perfect blend of both form and fixtures, Salah’s ownership is soaring and a home tie versus Southampton will be extremely tempting for Gameweek 12.
Having already scored 7 goals, provided 3 assists and amassed 7 bonus points so far this season, it’s clear to see why the Egyptian is the most transferred in player for Gameweek 12, with over 150,000 of you bringing him in.
Liverpool’s Gameweek 12 opponents, Southampton, are set up to be a defensive outfit, but have managed to keep only 4 clean sheets in their opening 12 league games – this is music to FPL manager’s ears, as Liverpool have scored 8 in their last 3 Premier League outings.
After being given a well-deserved break by already qualified Egypt over the international break, Salah is fresh and ready for Gameweek 12, but will you entrust him with the armband over Kane, Lukaku and Manchester City assets?
Glenn Murray vs. Stoke City (h)
Looking to make up ground in your FPL mini-leagues and fancy rolling the dice?
This week’s captaincy gamble pick is only for the boldest of FPL managers, as on paper, he’s way down the pecking order and is owned by only 2.0% overall.
Would you dare give the armband to a Brighton player?
When it comes to FPL and Brighton, most of the discussions on twitter have surrounded Pascal Gross due to his impressive form and value, however, leading the line for Brighton is striker Glenn Murray.
Murray’s incredible form as seen him score 4 goals in his last 3 Premier League matches, whilst also picking up 6 bonus points – returns any FPL manager would be happy with.
Next up for Murray and Brighton is a home tie vs Stoke City, who have so far conceded 22 goals this season.
Jack Butland is set to be sidelined due a hand injury, so Lee Grant looks likely to take his place between the sticks and I fancy goals in this one!
Everyone loves a Monday Night captain (well, I do anyway) as it doesn’t ruin your weekend, but, are you brave enough to stick the captains armband on Murray in Gameweek 12?
