West Brom (BOU, bur, STK)
West Brom begin the season with 3 strong fixtures. They host Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth in Gameweek 1, before travelling away to Burnley. They round off the first 3 games with a home fixture against a Stoke side that were ranked 12th best for goals conceded last time around.
The Baggies only managed to pick up 6 clean sheets last season, but they have historically done much better in that area, especially since Tony Pulis took charge. Despite their lack of clean sheets, Gareth McAuley was still the 9th highest scoring defender in FPL last season, thanks to his 6 goals and 1 assist.
Crystal Palace (HUD, liv, SWA)
Crystal Palace are now without a manager, following Sam Allardyce resigning. However, their opening fixtures look fairly favourable for whoever takes over the job, with home games against newly promoted Huddersfield and a Swansea side that narrowly avoided relegation last time around.
With 15 goals and 2 assists to his name last season, Christian Benteke could be a forward option to keep an eye on when selecting your first squad.
Huddersfield (cry, NEW, SOU)
Finally, we move on to Huddersfield.
The newly promoted side have a decent run of fixtures to begin life in the Premier League, with 2 of their first 3 fixtures coming at home. They’ll host the also newly promoted, Newcastle, as well as facing Southampton on home turf, with an away trip to Crystal Palace scheduled for the opening weekend.
Huddersfield right-back, Tommy Smith, made 43 starts last season, picking up an impressive 4 goals and 10 assists, so the defender could be one to watch, as part of a rotation strategy, if he comes in as a £4.5m option.
