Picks from Spurs, Leicester City and Manchester United make it on to @DannyBryan27’s HOT list for Gameweek 7 [Part 1]
Hello and welcome to my Gameweek 7 edition of ‘Who’s Hot and Who’s Not’, offering you weekly support and advice on how to stay ahead of the game in the world of FPL.
Gameweek 6 saw Manchester City run riot against Crystal Palace, but are Pep’s superstars really providing value for money? They travel to Chelsea in Gameweek 7, where big decisions lie ahead for FPL bosses.
Players from Manchester United and Spurs continue to deliver the goods, and have promising-looking fixtures in Gameweek 7.
Elsewhere, Arsenal overcame West Brom in Gameweek 6 to claim their third-straight home victory of the season – so do Arsene Wenger’s men hold the keys to success?
This is shaping up to be yet another fascinating Gameweek, so without further ado, here are my tips for Gameweek 7. As always, I wish all FPL players the very best of of luck!
Phil Jones – Manchester United [£5.2m]
Manchester United claimed yet another clean-sheet in Gameweek 6 – their fifth in in six Gameweeks, as they saw off Southampton at St.Mary’s.
Stoke City remain the only side to breach United’s watertight defence in the Premier League so far.
Crystal Palace visit Old Trafford in Gameweek 7 with no senior strikers available after Christian Benteke picked up a knee injury in their Gameweek 6 defeat at the Etihad.
The Eagles are yet to earn a point or score a Premier League goal this season, and I fully expect that statistic to stand for one more Gameweek at least, making Phil Jones a must-have for Gameweek 7.
The England defender has been an ever-present for Jose Mourinho’s side so far this season, and is selected by just 9.8% of FPL bosses at the time of writing – a strangely low figure given United’s excellent defensive record.
At just £5.2m, Jones continues to be an absolute bargain.
UPDATE: Since writing and publishing this article, Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Phil Jones has suffered an injury and said “I think Jones have many doubts.” – we’ll update this accordingly as new news comes through.
Christian Eriksen – Spurs [£9.7m]
With 42 points to his name already, can you afford not to have Christian Eriksen in your team?
The Danish midfielder has scored in consecutive away outings for Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs, and they’re on the road again in Gameweek 7 as they travel to Huddersfield, for whom the reality of the Premier League is beginning to hit home.
The Terriers are without a win in four Gameweeks, after picking up maximum points in their opening two.
Eriksen has been directly involved in 50% of Spurs’ Premier League goals so far this season – a statistic which has made him the most popular midfield selection among FPL bosses, featuring in 27% of teams at the time of writing.
Jamie Vardy – Leicester City [£8.5m]
Jamie Vardy owners were dealt a hammer-blow in Gameweek 6, as the England striker saw his penalty saved by Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet.
Having found the net just moments earlier for the third Gameweek in a row, Vardy was on course for a bumper Gameweek score until his spot-kick was parried away by the Belgian, costing over 11% of FPL bosses up to ten points, when you consider the bonus points that would have almost certainly accompanied a brace for the prolific forward.
Leicester travel to Bournemouth in Gameweek 7 – only Crystal Palace and West Ham have leakier defences that these two – so there is huge potential here for the attackers on show to deliver high scores.
Vardy has five Premier League goals in six appearances so far – that’s one more than Harry Kane, who is a full £4.0m more expensive.
