Fantasy Premier League Tips – Captain Differentials for Gameweek 2
Happy Thursday to all FPL managers around the world – Gameweek 2 is almost upon us.
It’s FPL Physio here with the second instalment of my ‘Captaincy differentials’ article.
Last week, two of my four captain picks enjoyed healthy Gameweek 1 returns, with Rooney bagging 9-points and Firmino with 12.
Jesus and Benteke failed to deliver on this occasion, but both had their opportunities to deliver the goods.
Anyway, let’s take a look at my captaincy differentials picks for the upcoming Gameweek 2 fixtures and as always, may your arrows be green.
Sam Vokes – Burnley [£6.0m]
First up this week is Burnley’s two goal hero from Stamford Bridge, Sam Vokes.
The Burnley marksman carried his impressive end of season form in to this campaign with his 6th goal in 7 Premier League games.
He looked sharp and ready to nail down his starting spot in Sean Dyches starting 11, after the sale of Andre Gray to Watford.
Vokes and co. welcome a West Brom side who narrowly defeated Bournemouth on the opening day of the season – hanging on dearly for an entire half!
Owned by only 5.4% of FPL players at the time of publishing this article, a Vokes goal or two, with the armband on him, will surely catapult you up your mini-leagues.
Steve Mounie – Huddersfield [£6.0m]
Next up, having been touted as a man to pick during pre-season, Steve Mounie more than rewarded those who took a punt on him.
He scored twice as Huddersfield emphatically announced themselves on to the Premier League stage, with a 0-3 away win at Selhurt Park.
On paper, they have the perfect fixture to continue their flying start – a home tie against Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United.
David Wagners team will be full of confidence and adoring fans will no doubt act as their 12th man.
Newcastle are yet to get off the mark after a 2-0 loss to Spurs and a defensive injury crisis isn’t welcome!
Mounie looks to be at the centre of Huddersfield’s efforts going forward and could offer FPL bosses the perfect captaincy differential pick for Gameweek 2.
Jamie Vardy – Leicester City [£8.6m]
Up next – another two-goal hero from Gameweek 1, it’s Leicester City’s front-man, Jamie Vardy.
His two goals last Friday reminded me of the 2015-16 campaign, where he was tearing defences apart with ease and consistently.
He faces a Brighton side who had a tough start to life in the top division, who, in fairness, did well to keep the scoreline as low as 2-0.
Leicester looked promising going forward in Gameweek 1, scoring three times against a talented Arsenal defence.
Albrighton and Mahrez provided good service to Vardy in that game and if they do so again, Vardy could run riot.
Alvaro Morata – Chelsea [£10.0m]
To close this weeks proceedings, it’s Chelsea’s new mega-money striker, Alvaro Morata.
Morata came on with Chelsea 3-0 down to a spirited Burnley side and bagged a goal and assist in just 23 minutes.
He looked sharp, hungry and ready to light up the League!
There are question marks over his starting place, but surely Conte can’t afford to bench him again after his cameo last Saturday.
He faces a tough test against Pochettino’s Spurs side in Gameweek 2, however, they have a poor record at Wembley and cannot afford to make mistakes with Morata waiting to pounce.
