ALL IN ON SPURS ASSETS? | Gameweek 5: Players to Watch

It’s double Tottenham in our Gameweek 5 Players to Watch series, but no Kane

It’s all about Spurs…and so it should be – can you afford to gamble going in to Gameweek 5 without at least TWO Spurs assets…

At the time of writing, a Tottenham defender and midfielder are topping the transfers IN charts for their positions, with Harry Kane the second most transferred in striker ahead of Gameweek 5.

With a glorious run of September fixtures (on paper) for Pochettino’s Spurs, it comes as no surprise to see their playing topping the FPL transfer charts.

This week, two Tottenham players feature in our Gameweek 5 Players to Watch series, with a Manchester City star and Newcastle differential thrown in for good measure.

As always, we invite you to read the article and then check out the YouTube video below for all the stats and glossy graphics which help support our Gameweek 4 selections.

Christian Eriksen – Spurs [£9.7m]

The Spurs midfielder has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, with 1 goal and 3 assists to his name so far.

Only Sadio Mané (7) and Mohamed Salah (9) have taken more shots on target than Eriksen (6), amongst Premier League midfielders, while only 6 players have produced more in total.

The Denmark international is also looking good for assist potential, having produced a tally of 10 attempted assists so far; only 5 players have managed more.

There is an argument to go for teammate, Dele Alli, due to his 3-match ban in the Champions League, which will likely mean slightly more game-time in the Premier League for the England midfielder.

However, as we saw last Gameweek, when Eriksen is subbed off, it’s usually a sign that Spurs are shutting up shop anyway.

Spurs take on Swansea, West Ham, Huddersfield and Bournemouth over the next 4 Gameweeks, with the trip to Wales coming up in Gameweek 5.

Swansea have conceded a total of 78 goal attempts this season, which is level with Burnley; no team has conceded more in the Premier League.

Gabriel Jesus – Man City [£10.4m]

The Man City forward had more points per game than any of his teammates last season and he’s made an impressive start to the new season, with 3 goals in his last 2 Premier League games, against Liverpool and Bournemouth

When compared with teammate, Sergio Aguero, the Brazilian has produced more shots on target (6 to 4) and more goals (3 to 2), so far.

His tally of 6 shots on target can be beaten only by Rashford (7), Joselu, Kane and Lukaku (9), amongst Premier League strikers.

Man City have produced a total of 10 goals this season; only Man Utd have managed more (12), while only Liverpool have produced more shots on target than Pep Guardiola’s side this season, although the data is slightly skewed from last Gameweek’s match between the two sides, where Sadio Mané’s red card was a key factor.

In Gameweek 5, Man City face a Watford side that have made a fairly strong start to the season.

They’re undefeated so far, having kept 3 consecutive clean sheets, following their draw with Liverpool on opening day.

But after a 5-0 win over Liverpool last Gameweek, Pep’s team will be full of confidence and keen to keep up the pressure on Man Utd, at the top of the Premier League table.

Ben Davies – Spurs [£5.7m]

The Spurs defender has been impressive in the opening games of the season, both in a defensive and attacking sense, with 2 clean sheets, 2 assists and 1 goal to his name so far. The underlying numbers suggest there is even more to come from Davies too.

The left-wing-back has produced a tally of 13 attempted assists in the opening 4 Gameweeks; that’s more than Christian Eriksen (10) has managed and only Mkhitaryan (16) and Özil (15) have managed more.

Davies has also registered 6 goal attempts this season, with 3 hitting the target; only Marcos Alonso has managed more shots on target amongst defenders, with 4.

Spurs have conceded just 3 goals this season; only Huddersfield, Man Utd and Man City (2) have conceded fewer.

In Gameweek 5, they’ll host a Swansea side that have mustered up just 7 attempts on goal this season; on par with Everton and no Premier League team has managed fewer.

Ciaran Clark – Newcastle [£4.5m]

After a disappointing start to the season for Newcastle, which saw them narrowly suffer defeats to both Spurs and Huddersfield, Rafa Benitez’s side have now won 2 consecutive matches, against West Ham and Swansea, keeping clean sheets in both.

Both Newcastle centre-backs have found the back of the net already this season, with Jamaal Lascelles scoring the winner against Swansea from a late corner, so there is certainly attacking threat in the pair.

Clark has taken 2 goal attempts so far this season, with both hitting the target, while Lascelles’ effort against Swansea was his only goal attempt so far.

Newcastle have conceded just 3 goals this season, which is level with Spurs; only Huddersfield, Man Utd and Man City (2) have conceded fewer.

In Gameweek 5, they’ll host a Stoke side that managed a 2-2 draw with Man Utd last weekend. Stoke are a strong team at home, but they’re yet to find a win away from home this season; losing to Everton and drawing with West Brom, in their two away games so far.
