Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks and Tips for FPL Gameweek 28
Hello to all FPL bosses around the world and welcome to a very quiet Gameweek 28. With just 4 Premier League games to be played this weekend, selecting your captain is very much slim pickings, however, we have identified a few players who are more than capable of delivering the goods for you this weekend – just like Hazard, Crouchy and Gabbiadini did last in the earlier Gameweek.
Romelu Lukaku – Everton
- West Brom (H)
First up is the Premier League’s second top goal scorer, Everton striker Romelu Lukaku. Big Rom will be hoping to continue his impressive goal-scoring form of late against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday. Lukaku has an opportunity to join or overtake Harry Kane at the top of the goal scoring charts this weekend, with Spurs out of action.
Lukaku, of course, used to play for West Brom on loan when he was at Chelsea so will be hoping to show the Baggies exactly what they’re missing this weekend. The Belgian has 18 goals as well as 154 FPL points and priced at just £10.2m is a very reasonably priced and lethal FPL weapon.
Prior to last weeks entertaining 3-2 defeat away at Spurs, Everton were on a 9-game unbeaten run in the league so will be hoping to get another run going as well head towards the business end of the season. If the Toffees do end the season well, they could sneak a Europa League spot for next season.
I expect Lukaku to find the back of the net at least once on Saturday and Everton to earn all 3 points, and because of this, Romelu Lukaku is my number one pick in FPL this weekend.
It’s also worth noting that Big Rom is currently leading our Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 28 Captains Poll with an impressive 41% of overall votes.
Roberto Firmino – Liverpool
- Burnley (H)
Next up, from the other end of Merseyside is Liverpool midfielder Roberto Firmino. The Liverpool forward found the back of the net and laid on an assist in a 12 point haul in the 3-1 win against Arsenal at Anfield.
Liverpool will be hoping to get revenge on Burnley, as the Clarets beat Liverpool 2-0 in the reverse fixture at Turf Moor in the second gameweek of the season. I expect them to do so by some margin, as Burnley are a different team away from home and are there for the taking.
Firmino is a bargain at £8.5m. Having accumulated 136 FPL points to date this season and providing 9 goals and 4 assists for Liverpool this season, he’s worth every single penny.
Barring a tricky fixture away at Manchester City next week, Liverpool have a very tidy run-in on paper for the rest of the season, leaving Firmino with an ideal opportunity to deliver some hefty returns for anyone who has the Brazilian in their FPL teams.
Please note that Firmino now has a 75% chance-of-playing injury flag against his name on the FPL game. However, reports do suggest that he has trained and it likely to make the squad on Sunday so, fingers crossed.
Fernando Llorente – Swansea
- Hull City (A)
Our last regular pick is Swansea striker Fernando Llorente, who will be hoping to bang another goal or two in away at Hull City this Saturday. If Swansea do earn 3 points, they might have one foot in the Premier League for next season and hammer one nail in the Tigers coffin in the process, so it certainly is a 6 pointer at the KCOM Stadium.
Llorente is valued at a bargain-basement price of just £6.5m but has earned 104 FPL points, what a steal! The Spaniard has 11 Premier League goals to his name this season so if you’re looking for a budget striker to accommodate the higher priced striker’s then Llorente’s is your man.
I think there will be goals in this game and Llorente will find the back of the net and fire The Swans towards Premier League survival on Saturday. Well done to Paul Clement for the fine job he is doing at the Liberty Stadium – is now the time for YOU to draft him in to your FPL teams this week…
Sam Clucas – Hull City
- Swansea (H)
Our gamble also comes from the Swansea vs Hull City game with the Tigers midfielder Sam Clucas being our choice for this weekend. Clucas may not have even come into your thoughts for this weekend but here’s why he should be.
Clucas is very much a journeyman as he made history last weekend by becoming the first player to score in the National League, Leagues 1 and 2, the Championship and the Premier League and he did his in 5 consecutive seasons. A stat to remember when watching A Question of Sport or taking part in a drunken sports quiz.
Clucas isn’t a bad player at all and is worth just £4.7m so could be included in your teams to accommodate the likes of Eden Hazard – he is almost guaranteed to start every week, unlike a few other players in his price category.
Clucas may only have 1 goal and 1 assist so far this season which doesn’t make great reading, however, he has played well recently so I think this number will rise towards the end of the season – especially if Hull stay in a dog-fight until the bitter end.
Owned by just 0.1% of FPL managers, you may not have the minerals to captain him – however, as mentioned above, he’s worth considering as a cheap 5th man in your midfield and could be an ideal differential in what’s likely to be a low-scoring and very upsetting Gameweek 28.
Thank you for reading, good luck to all and as always, may our arrows be green.
