Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks and Tips to help maximise your Gameweek 29 FPL score
Hello and welcome to the latest Fantasy Football Pundits Captaincy Article. Selecting your captain could be somewhat of a head-scratcher this week with Kane injured, Zlatan suspended and Romelu Lukaku’s long-term future very much up in the air at the moment.
However, there are still plenty of quality candidates out there and here we’ll select 3 regular picks and a gamble who will hopefully do better than our selections last week!
Sergio Aguero – Manchester City
- Liverpool (H)
Our first candidate this week is Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero who will be hoping to put the clubs Champions League disappointment in midweek behind them, whilst earning 3 vital points at home in a cracker against Liverpool.
With City 1 point and 1 place ahead of the visitors with a game in hand, a victory would surely secure a place in the Champions League for next season?
Aguero has a great record against Liverpool, scoring a goal every 134 mins he has played in against the Reds. I think there will definitely be goals this weekend and Aguero will surely find the back of the net – especially against a Klopp side that has kept only 1 clean sheet in their last 9 Premier League outings.
Many of you will be ditching Kane from your FPL teams due to his injury and with Aguero at only £1.4m extra in price, hopefully you’ll have enough money in the bank to draft the Argentinian into your teams.
If you do manage to get him in to your FPL teams then you’re likely to reap the rewards as he has earned 103 points this season – a reduced figure to his usual amount due to missing a number of games through suspension.
With City now out of Europe and only an FA Cup semi final game versus Arsenal on the horizon, I expect Aguero to have an amazing end to a season that perhaps hasn’t been his best to date.
Diego Costa – Chelsea
- Stoke City (A)
Next up is another ready-made replacement for Kane or Zlatan – Chelsea striker Diego Costa, who will fancy his chances of banging a goal or two in against Stoke at the Bet365 Stadium this weekend.
Costa has scored 17 league goals this season including 2 in his last two. With the leagues current top scorer Harry Kane out of action for around 5-6 weeks, he’s likely to capitalise on his absence and fire his way towards the leagues golden boot award.
The Spaniard is valued at £10.7m in FPL and is worth every penny due to his impressive return of 154 points to date. Chelsea have a nice end to the season on paper so expect this rally to rise between now and May, with his price and TSB% likely to rise dramatically.
Jermain Defoe – Sunderland
- Burnley (H)
Our last regular pick for Gameweek 29 is Sunderland striker Jermaine Defoe who’ll be on cloud-nine having finally earned a recall to the England squad – which has been a long time coming and is much overdue in my opinion.
For a mid-range priced player at just £7.7m, to bag an incredible 14 league goals and earn 142 FPL points is some achievement for the 34-year-old. Sunderland would be probably a Championship club now if it wasn’t for Defoe.
Since the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in Gameweek 24, Sunderland and Defoe have struggled, losing their last 3 games by an aggregate score of 8-0. However, with Burnley visiting the Stadium of Light this weekend in poor away form, I would be surprised to see their woes in front of goal continue.
Kevin Mirallas – Everton
- Hull City (H)
Finally our gamble this week is Everton midfielder Kevin Mirallas. Under normal circumstances, Everton’s representation in this article this week would have been Romelu Lukaku.
But with rumours circulating this week that the big Belgian is refusing to sign a new deal at Goodison Park, captaincy representation in this article is switched to his compatriot Mirallas.
Mirallas is in good form at the moment, with a goal and 2 assists in his last 3 games. He is very under-priced I think at just £6m which is an absolute steal for a player of his quality.
Everton face Hull at Goodison Park on Saturday carrying excellent form – having won their last 5 matches at home by an aggregate of 18-3 including 4 clean sheets. There’s no doubt the Tigers have improved since Marco Silva took charge, but their away form is still poor so a home win is surely a certainty this weekend?
Whilst some might argue that Mirallas doesn’t get enough game-time under Koeman’s leadership, he’s still managed 2 assists and 1 goal in his last 3 games, whilst playing no more than 70 minutes in each game…
I have actually drafted Mirallas into my own FPL team for Gameweek 29 and he’s my captain, so, why not join me in taking a leap of faith this week whilst going against the masses?
