Quenstions from the Fantasy Premier League Twitter community ahead of BLANK Gameweek 35
With only 6 Premier League fixtures on offer in Gameweek 35, many FPL managers will be scrambling to play their Free Hit chip to field a strong starting 11, but what about those of us who’ve already burnt the chip?
@_FPLTips and @FFPundits once again reached out to the fantasy Fantasy Premier League Community this week to ask for your burning questions and concerns ahead of Saturday’s 11:30am Gameweek 35 deadline.
Once again, we were inundated with so many brilliant and fascinating questions and we thank you all for that – sadly, we only have space in the article and video for 5 or 6 questions each week, so apologies to those who aren’t featured.

Mahmoud fadel (@mahmoudfadel) asks:
“Who is best defender to own in #GW35?”
Man City and Liverpool are likely to be favourites for a clean sheet in Gameweek 35 but since the two teams are joint first for goals scored over the last 4 matches, with 10 apiece, it may be worth prioritising their midfielders and forwards.
Burnley are another team that we’ve come to associate with a strong defence; only Newcastle (2) and Liverpool (1) have conceded fewer goals in the last 4 matches.
However, the issue with all 3 teams mentioned – Man City, Liverpool and Burnley, is that their Gameweek 35 opponents all have something to play for, being in or around the relegation zone.
With that in mind, it may be wise to focus on attacking defenders, such as Robertson or Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, Patrick van Aanholt, Coleman or Baines and perhaps Moritz Bauer from Stoke, who’s played in a midfield role for the last 3 matches.
Luke Tizzard (@luke_tizzard) asks:
“Best City players to get on a Free Hit? #GW35”
Sergio Aguero looks set to miss the game with a knee injury, so Gabriel Jesus should keep his place upfront. He’s provided returns in each of his last 3 starts, including a goal and assist against Spurs last weekend.
For the remaining two spots, we’ve got a number of strong options in Sterling, Sané, De Bruyne, David Silva or even a defender.
Nicolas Otamendi and Kevin De Bruyne have each been given rests over the last 2 matches, perhaps making them the most likely to start in Gameweek 35.
But Raheem Sterling looks hard to ignore, having scored more FPL points than any other Man City player this season. No player has been involved in more ‘big chances’ than Sterling (5), over the last 4 Gameweeks.
Andy Simmons (@Tandark) asks:
“Options to replace Alonso if he’s suspended?”
Following on from the previous question, a Man City defender such as Nicolas Otamendi could be a good way to go, considering their kind run of fixtures to end the season and the Double Gameweek 37 to come.
Rotation is the issue there but as mentioned before, the centre-back was rested as recently as last Gameweek.
Alternatively, Azpilicueta could offer a like-for-like replacement or a Spurs defender such as Jan Vertonghen could come into consideration, if you have the Free Hit chip for Gameweek 35.
Huzaifa Husain (@HuzziHusain) asks:
“Which 3 Liverpool and City players to look at for GW35?”
We’ve already spoken about the Man City options but in terms of Liverpool players to bring in with the Free Hit, the number one target will likely be Mohamed Salah.
His 7 FPL involvements (6 goals, 1 assist) over the last 4 Gameweeks is at least 2 more than any other player has managed.
For the other two options, we’ve got the likes of Firmino, Mané, Van Dijk, Robertson and even Alexander-Arnold to choose from.
If you’re looking for a defender, Robertson is perhaps the way to go, having contributed to 4 goals this season, with 2 assists in his last 3 league appearances.
Firmino and Mané have each taken 9 efforts from inside the box over the last 4 Gameweeks, scoring 2 goals apiece.
Sadio Mané has provided 2 assists over that period and is perhaps looking the more creative, with 5 attempted assists to Firmino’s 2. But there’s very little to separate the pair.
slammmingsam (@slammmingsam) asks:
“What Arsenal player other than Auba and Cech? Hard to pick who will start other than those two.”
We’ve seen over the last few Gameweeks that Arsenal are prioritising the Europa League and are likely to continue rotating players in Premier League matches, so we have to be wary when selecting them.
As you mentioned, Aubameyang is the strongest option from them, since he’s unavailable for the Europa League.
Callum Chambers could be an option to consider, for both defensive and attacking potential. He’s priced at £4.7m and can slot in either at right-back or centre-back and in his last 3 matches, he’s taken a total of 8 goal attempts, with 7 inside the box and 3 on target.
Our final question comes from Mohit Gulati (@MohitGu53162872), who asks:
“No Free Hit available what shall I do? Have 7 players now to play in GW35”
It’s probably best to focus on the key captain options for Gameweek 35 initially, so Salah, Aubameyang and perhaps Sterling.
After that, you might want to consider the players who play in Gameweek 35 and also have a Double Gameweek to come in 37.
So, Arnautovic is the main player who springs to mind in that category, possibly Man City and Arsenal players as well, but again, we have to be mindful of rotation there.
