It’s going to be tight between Man United’s Romelu Lukaku and Tottenham’s Harry Kane for the top captaincy honours this week
Hello and welcome back to our weekly Fantasy Football Captaincy Poll and article, where we give you, the FPL manager, an opportunity to cast you weekly captain pick anonymously, to our captaincy poll.
FPL Managers who captained Harry Kane were smug after the Saturday lunchtime kick off, but it was Alvaro Morata’s hat-trick that stole the show in a week when most of the premium forwards all hit the back of the net.
With only 3 slots available for strikers and several premium options firing, has the decision of who to captain ever been so crucial?
So who do I (@FFPundits_Drew) expect to see top the Captain Poll this week? Please remember to cast your vote below and be sure to reach me on Twitter to continue the discussion.
Risk the early kick-off with Kane?
In last weekend’s early kick, Harry Kane (£12.5m) delivered two goals, were you brave enough for a 12:30pm captain? This week, Harry is first up again in the Saturday lunchtime kick off vs Huddersfield.
Are Tottenham Hotspur better away from Wembley?
Kane managed 7 shots last week vs West Ham, scoring twice before hitting the woodwork on another 2 occasions.
The Spurs striker is in hot form and should be a popular choice again for the armband this week.
Big Rom to go big?
Southampton played well last weekend and deserved more in their 1-0 defeat to Manchester United. During the game, Romelu Lukaku (£11.7m) only had 3 opportunities to shoot, but he managed to hit the target on all 3 occasions, scoring once.
Lukaku is at home this week to a struggling Crystal Palace side who have conceded 13 goals and sit firmly at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Added to the fact that 56% of you own the Belgian, Lukaku will lead the way in this week’s Captain Poll and is likely to go big!
Does owning Morata, matter?
Nearly 200K transfers in so far this week for Alvaro Morata (£10.3m), scoring a hat-trick will always increase your popularity, despite a tricky fixture vs Manchester City in Gameweek 7.
Those of you who have been involved in FPL for long enough will know that it’s often form, not fixtures, that deliver the best returns.
For that reason, Morata should be on the captain radar this week after an impressive display vs Stoke.
Best of the rest
The same could be said of Sergio Aguero (£11.7m) lining up in the same fixture vs Chelsea. Joining Morata on 6 goals for the season having scored 4 in his last 2 games.
We move on to Sunday’s fixtures, first the lunchtime kick off, Arsenal vs Brighton. With Alexis Sanchez (£11.9m) back in the first 11, could last year’s top point scorer be your captain this week?
Last night he managed 4 shots and create 2 chances (1 assist) and he will be looking to build on that vs Brighton. @FFPundits_Dale will certainly be hoping so!
Leading the attack for Arsenal is of course Alexandre Lacazette (£10.3m) who should benefit from the return of Sanchez and add to the 2 goals he scored last night.
Finally, at 4:30pm on Sunday, Liverpool travel to Newcastle, a fixture with a history of goals that should continue to deliver.
Liverpool’s attacking strength has been weakened lately through the loss on Sadio Mane (£9.4m), however the Senegalese international returns from is suspension this weekend.
Mane will not only become a captaincy option himself, but also increase the appeal for Mohammad Salah (£9.2m) and Roberto Firmino (£8.6m).
Remember to place your vote in our poll, I’d love to hear your feedback (@FFPundits_Drew) and who you plan to captain this week.
