Harry Kane continues to taunt the FPLtips fantasy team in Gameweek 18, but here’s how they line up for the New Year’s Gameweek 19 schedule
Scoring an above-average score of 77 points in Gameweek 18, several key players have once again let the side down, but which of the premium picks’ heads are on the chopping block for Gameweek 19?
As always, we invite you to read the article and then check out the YouTube video below for all the stats and glossy graphics which help support this weeks four picks – and be sure to subscribe for even more Fantasy Premier League tips.
Gameweek 18 Score – 77 Points
Jordan Pickford made 6 saves against Man Utd, to return 3 points. However, reports suggest he may have injured himself in the process, unfortunately. George Friend made another 1 point cameo, as Middlesbrough lost to Burnley but Marcos Alonso provided yet another clean sheet, to boost the returns in defence.
In midfield, it was a disappointing week for Alexis Sanchez and Gylfi Sigurdsson in terms of points; however, they both played fairly good games. Sanchez took an impressive 9 goal attempts, with 4 hitting the target, and produced 2 attempted assists.
Sigurdsson forced a save from a well-hit free kick against West Ham, producing a total of 2 shots on target and 3 attempted assists. Eden Hazard finally returned to scoring ways, converting a penalty against Bournemouth.
There were plenty of points upfront this week, with Andy Carroll getting on the score sheet against Swansea. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the standout performer in the team this week though, with a goal and 2 assists as captain.
With Diego Costa available once again, following his suspension, he is a potential option to replace Harry Kane, however the injury to Jordan Pickford has complicated matters. With no money in the bank, the only way to bring in a goalkeeper will be to downgrade elsewhere.
Bringing Costa in for Kane would raise enough cash to upgrade Pickford to a £4.3m goalkeeper, such as Lee Grant or Wayne Hennessey but there are question marks over both of those long-term, when Butland and Mandanda return from injury.
Bringing in a more secure goalkeeper such as Ben Foster or Tom Heaton would mean downgrading Christian Eriksen to Adam Lallana or potentially Matt Phillips, given West Brom’s promising run of fixtures.
Finally, a third option would be to go without a goalkeeper for Gameweek 19, with a view to bringing one in the following week, allowing both Kane and Eriksen to stay for the fixture against Watford, and also avoiding a hit.
This option would also leave the possibility of bringing in Sergio Aguero for his home fixture against Burnley, in Gameweek 20.
Jordan Pickford looks set to miss the fixture against Burnley, currently leaving the team without a goalkeeper, but be sure to follow FPLtips on Twitter for any updates regarding transfers.
The rest of the team looks fairly strong and it is tempting to keep hold of Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane for their fixture against Watford.
For captaincy this week, there are the same 3 contenders for me once again, in Eden Hazard (STK), Alexis Sanchez (CRY) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (MID). Diego Costa is another great option for those that own the Chelsea striker.
With Giroud back in the starting 11 last Gameweek, Alexis Sanchez was shifted out wide, so that could be an issue once again, if Walcott fails to recover from injury in time. Hazard always plays well in real-life terms, but his goal involvement in recent FPL weeks hasn’t been overly impressive.
So, that leaves Zlatan Ibrahimovic wearing the captain armband for Gameweek 19 and this is unlikely to change, having scored three consecutive double-digit gameweek scores in his last 3 outings – 15, 12 and 11.
