Trust Spurs' Harry Kane with the Armband? - Gameweek 13 FPL Team Selection

10:22pm Nov 21 2017

Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane lead the line in Gameweek 13, but who will wear the captains armband?

With a mouth-watering, attacking front-line of Lukaku and Kane, the @_FPLTips team has a big captaincy decision to make ahead of Friday’s 7pm Fantasy Premier League deadline.

Having blanked in Gameweek 12 whilst also picking up a yellow card, Harry Kane burned many of us, but Lukaku managed to deliver attacking returns and looked much livelier with Paul Pogba back in Manchester United’s starting 11.

Transfer Plans

Phil Jones missed Manchester United’s win over Newcastle with a calf injury and has since been ruled out of Gameweek 13’s home fixture against Brighton.

With a busy schedule coming up over the Christmas period, including a number of midweek Premier League matches, is it time to lose the injury-prone defender?

After keeping 2 consecutive clean sheets, Charlie Daniels will be the likely transfer in this Gameweek, ahead of Bournemouth’s away trip to Swansea.

Here’s how the team will likely shape up for Gameweek 13:

Goalkeeper

There’s a decision to make between the sticks as Rob Elliot hosts Watford, a fixture that on paper, should carry a better chance of a clean sheet.

Newcastle have, however, kept just 1 clean sheet during the last 8 gameweeks and only 6 teams have scored more than Watford’s 19 goals this season. With that in mind, the in-form Nick Pope keeps his place, despite Burnley hosting Arsenal in Gameweek 13.

Burnley have kept 3 consecutive clean sheets and no goalkeeper has made more saves than Pope, since he took over from the injured Tom Heaton in Gameweek 5.

Defenders

To manage the risk, Burnley defender Ben Mee will move to the bench for the game against Arsenal.

Cedric Soares will play his last game in our team, before moving him to Marcos Alonso next Gameweek, so hopefully he can sign off with a return when Southampton host an Everton side that have scored just 4 times away from home this season.

Swansea are in desperate need of a win as they host Bournemouth this weekend but after 4 consecutive defeats in the Premier League, it’s not looking good for Kyle Naughton.

Finally, Charlie Daniels is likely to come into the team this week, on the back of Bournemouth’s 2 consecutive clean sheets against Newcastle and Huddersfield.

Midfielders

Tammy Abraham is doubtful after being stretchered off last weekend, so Ruben Loftus-Cheek is likely to keep his place, ahead of the home fixture against Stoke. The on-loan midfielder has provided assists in each of his last 2 home games.

Man City travel to Huddersfield this weekend and after Pep Guardiola suggested that Jesus and Aguero won’t play together for the time being, due to Mendy’s injury forcing a change of system, Raheem Sterling should keep his starting place.

The England midfielder has been directly involved in 5 goals during his last 4 league appearances; scoring twice and providing 3 assists.

Richarlison will be looking to build on his impressive tally of 5 goals and 4 assists when Watford travel to Newcastle in Gameweek 13.

Rafa Benitez’s side have suffered 3 straight defeats in the Premier League; conceding 6 goals over that period. Only Huddersfield (7), West Ham (8) and West Brom (8) have conceded more goals during the same period.

Liverpool host Chelsea this weekend and Mohamed Salah comes into the fixture having scored a brace in each of his previous two league games, against Southampton and West Ham.

No player has taken more than Salah’s 11 shots on target during the last 4 Gameweeks.

Finally in midfield, Christian Eriksen lines up for the home fixture against a badly out-of-form West Brom side.

The Denmark international has shone for his country in recent weeks but has failed to provide FPL returns in any of the last 4 Gameweeks, so hopefully he can end his drought here.

Forwards

Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku ended his Premier League goal drought last weekend, during the 4-1 win over Newcastle.

With Pogba and Ibrahimovic back from injury, Jose Mourinho’s side have a much-improved attack for their home fixture against Brighton.

Harry Kane completes the lineup ahead of the home fixture against West Brom. Whilst he didn’t look completely fit during the defeat to Arsenal, Pochettino has insited that Kane was fine.

The Spurs forward has 8 goals to his name this season and only Mohamed Salah (26) has taken more shots on target than Kane (24) this season.

Captaincy Thoughts

The 2 forwards provide the safest captain options within the FPLtips team for Gameweek 13, with Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane each facing favourable home fixtures.

No team have conceded more goals than West Brom during the last 3 Gameweeks, so it’s the Spurs forward who is likely to take the armband.
