Is now the time to centre your Gameweek 14 fantasy team around a Chelsea core?
With the likes of Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku and Christian Eriksen not delivering the fantasy returns we’d usually expect for them, is now the time to centre your weekly teams around a Chelsea spine?
Whilst on the official Fantasy Premier League you’re allowed only 3 players from one team, on the Starting 11 fantasy game which we love and play every week, allows you to have up to 10 players from one side in your team.
This weeks Core 4 is a Chelsea Special, however with all 20 Premier League teams in action, don’t forget to check out my Safe and Differential Picks which will cover the remaining key players this Gameweek.
Whatever fantasy format you’re playing this week, I hope that my Core 4 picks give you plenty of food for thought ahead of Gameweek 14.
After a slow start to the 2017-18 season, the reigning champions are working through the gears and now find themselves 3rd in the Premier League table.
With key players missing, Conte relied heavily on summer signing Alvaro Morata who duly delivered, scoring 8 goals and providing 4 assists already this season.
Swansea are without a win in their last 5 Premier League games, largely due to allowing on average 14.4 shots per game – conceding 7 in their last 5 outings.
Now linking up with a fully fit Eden Hazard, I expect more chances to fall to the former Real Madrid striker and for him to be challenging Mohamed Salah for that golden boot during a period of favourable fixtures over the festive period.
A midfielder playing as a striker is a dream for any fantasy manager; add penalty taking duties in to the mix and you can understand why Hazard is the player we’re looking to own in our fantasy lineups each week.
The Belgian international is becoming an essential player at this stage of the season, after scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assist in his last 5 Premier League outings.
His performance in the first half against Liverpool in Gameweek 13 was the closest thing I have seen to Messi than the man himself, producing 9 out of 11 successful dribbles, despite playing away from home.
Hazard has spent the last few seasons playing either as a number 10, or coming in from the left-hand side – however this season, Antonio Conte has him right up alongside Morata, running in behind and creative key chances for himself and his team-mates.
My Starting 11 team is built around Hazard in Gameweek 14 and will be my captain in Wednesday’s contests.
Opposition teams seem to have caught on after Alonso’s heroics last season, when he spent more of his time in the oppositions penalty area than defending!
That said, he has still managed an impressive 21 shots at goal this season – 7 more than the next highest defender and is equal with Manchester City’s midfield maestro, Leroy Sane.
He went close again with a free kick against Liverpool in Gameweek 13 and the signs are there that he is ready to add to his 3 goals for the season.
Swansea allowed Bournemouth left-back Charlie Daniels to spend most of Saturday;s game in the opposition half and if Alonso is allowed the same time and space at Stamford Bridge this Wednesday, he’s likely to punish them.
A run of 3 clean-sheets for the Chelsea man could only be ended by this seasons arguably ‘must own’ player, Mohamed Salah – however, can Swansea produce the same level of goal threat? I think not…
Swansea now have the worst offensive record in the Premier League and have scored only 7 goals scored after 13 games.
The Welsh side are severely suffering without the creative spark of Gilfy Sigurdsson after his summer move to Everton, with the likes of Carroll, Fer and Clucas not rising to the challenge.
The form shown by Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpillicueta means Courtois will be in for a quiet evening under the floodlights on Wednesday – however, if the Belgian is called upon, he boasts the 5th highest save percentage this season with 74.36%.
Will you be doubling up with Alonso and cashing in on a Chelsea clean-sheet on Wednesday? All aboard.
BEFORE YOU GO: If you’re new or still not familiar with how Starting 11 fantasy football works, it couldn’t be simpler – it’s a daily fantasy game where we’re required to pick an 11-man team for one day only – without any team budget or player salary restrictions!
There are NO player values and NO team budgets – leaving you to pick what YOU think will be the best scoring 11-man-team from Sunday’s Gameweek 13 fixtures.
