Transfers are common in all sports. Football clubs sell and sign new players during transfer windows. English Premier League teams have some of the highest annual transfer budgets.

Players can sign a contract or play for specific teams as free agents. Besides, some players cost clubs millions of dollars to sign them. The following are seven big-name transfers in football history.

Kylian Mbappe (Monaco to PSG-2018)

Kylian is a French footballer who started his professional career with AS Monaco in 2015. Paris-Saint Germain paid £160m for the teenager.

He played one season for the club and later signed a permanent contract with it.

Zlatan Ibrahimović (Inter Milan to Barcelona-2009)

Samuel Eto’o was a top footballer in Barcelona FC in the early 2000s. The Spanish giant replaced him with Zlatan Ibrahimović in 2009.

Reports state that Inter Milan demanded €40 million to release Zlatan. Barcelona was in a rush to find a replacement for Eto’o. Zlatan scored 21 goals in 43 games for the Catalans. According footballfans.net during his stay at Camp Nou.

He had often disagreed with Pep Guardiola, the club’s manager who later loaned him to AC Milan.

Neymar (Barcelona to PSG-2017)

Neymar started his football career on March 7, 2009. He joined Barcelona on May 27, 2013, after participating in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup. Paris-Saint Germain paid £198m to Barcelona for his release in 2017.

He is the world’s most expensive football transfer in history. Reports show that his bonuses and wages and in his transfer were worth $500million.

Fernando Torres (Liverpool to Chelsea-2011)

Many football fans anticipated Fernando’s move to Liverpool in the January transfer period. Even so, the club had been in turmoil for a while since it had new management.

Fenway Sports Group replaced Roy Hodgson with Kenny Dalglish. Torres submitted a transfer request to the club on January 27. Chelsea paid £50 million for the footballer.

David Beckham (Real Madrid to LA Galaxy-2007)

David moved from Real Madrid to LA Galaxy in 2007. He is a legendary footballer who played in the English Premier League for many seasons.

The former midfielder shocked his fans when he left Madrid after helping it win the Spanish league. He had earlier expressed his interest to play for AC Milan on loan. 

Luis Figo (Barcelona to Real Madrid-2000)

Many people got angry after Luis joined Real Madrid in 2000. One fan threw a pig’s head at him in a 2002 La Liga match. He disappointed many Barcelona FC supporters. Real Madrid later signed David Beckham, Ronaldo, and Zinedine Zidane.

They helped it win one UEFA Champions League and two La Liga titles.

Robinho (Real Madrid to Manchester City-2008)

Robson de Souza, popularly known as Robinho played for Real Madrid from 2006 to 2008. The club tried to trade him with Christiano Ronaldo but the deal wasn’t successful.

Robinho started negotiating with English Premier League clubs and Manchester City paid £32.5 million for his transfer in 2008.

Football transfers were first made more than a century ago. Football federations create rules that clubs need to follow when making transfers.

Also, many clubs have two transfer windows in a season. Kylian Mbappe, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Neymar, Fernando Torres, David Beckham, and Luis Figo are among the most prominent football transfers ever made.
