Can Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy make a serious challenge for the Premier League Golden Boot award?

Ahead of Gameweek 25 of the Fantasy Premier League, Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy is the best scorer in the competition.

He has scored 17 goals, including three successfully converted penalties. The question is whether Vardy has a chance to stay in the top spot until the end of the season?

We are offering reasons why that might happen. If you agree with our choice, how about placing a wager?

He is in front of his main competitors

The most obvious reason in favor of Vardy is that he is already at the top of the scoring list. If you take a look at other candidates, it doesn’t seem that anyone could endanger him.

Aguero does have 16 goals, but Manchester City already lost the title battle to Liverpool. At least that’s what Pep Guardiola told the pundits recently.

If Man City focuses on the Champions League, that means Aguero won’t be pursuing goals in domestic competitions. Also, Aguero already was the top scorer of the EPL, which means he shouldn’t be as motivated as Vardy.

As for other competitors, Aubameyang, Ings, and Rashford scored 14 goals so far. That means Leicester City’s attacker is three goals ahead, and he is capable enough of maintaining that advantage

He was already close to winning it several times

Remember the EPL 2015/16 when Leicester won the title? We are sure that you do, and you also know Jamie Vardy was one of the people to thank for that. Vardy ended that season with 24 goals, which is only one goal less than Harry Kane.

Vardy also scored 20 goals in the 2017/18 season and ended up in the fourth spot on the scorers’ list. Last season, Jamie put the ball into the net 18 times, which was enough for a fourth position.

After being so close to winning the award on multiple occasions, it seems like this is Vardy’s season.

The statistics speak in favour of hat

At this moment, Vardy scored 17 goals in 24 rounds. If he continues at this rate, that means he should score 26-27 goals by the end of the season. That gives him good odds to be the top scorer of the EPL.

According to statistics, top scorers remained within the range of 26 goals on 15 of 27 EPL seasons. Last year, three players shared the award with 22 goals – Salah, Mane, and Aubameyang, which is a more than feasible task for Vardy

Leicester City Plays Great

They might not be leading the Premier League table, but nobody can deny that Leicester are playing their best football since they won the title.

Brendan Rodgers did an amazing job with the team, and it seems they are aiming for a Champions League spot once again

If they continue playing the way they have so far, that is more than doable. And if Leicester plays well, that means Vardy will have more chances to score goals.
