Manchester City have one hand on the Premier League trophy, while Jamie Vardy will look to take advantage of an appalling Arsenal defence…
As Manchester City take a step towards retaining their Premier League title and are without Champions League distractions, are they now safer options for our fantasy sides?
Do any of Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester United actually want a top 4 place?
For all you FPL managers out there – as well as those of you playing Starting 11 daily fantasy with us each week, I hope this week’s selections give you plenty of food for thought when locking in your FPL and daily fantasy lineups.
The Starting 11 iOS and Android apps can be downloaded for free, and we’ve a £25 1st place prize up for grabs in our FPLtips Mini League this Sunday, so be sure to check that out.
Jamie Vardy vs. Arsenal (H)
With nine goals and two assists from his last ten games, Jamie Vardy has certainly found his form under Brendan Rodgers.
On Saturday, a home tie against Arsenal – we all know fantasy football is about form over fixture so I wouldn’t let the fact that the Gunners are this weekend’s visitors put you off.
Not that I would be too overly concerned with Arsenal’s defence, conceding three goals last weekend at home to Crystal Palace – it looks like the ideal time for Vardy to have another party.
Vardy is now only three goals behind Salah, Aguero and Aubameyang in the Premier League this season, surely it is too late for him to push for the Golden Boot now – however, under different management earlier in the season, he could have certainly been a challenger.
*Update – Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to Wolves means they’ve conceded SIX goals in only two games, get Vardy in your starting 11 and strongly consider giving him the captain’s armband.
Heung-Min Son vs. West Ham (H)
There may be the small matter of a Champions League Semi-Final vs Ajax to think about, but Spurs don’t have their top 4 position guaranteed just yet – Son will be key to securing Champions League football next season.
With Kane out injured, Son is the tip of the sword – yes Llorente remains an option but I’m sure opposition defence will be happy if they were to see the former Swansea striker leading the line over Son.
West Ham haven’t kept a clean sheet for six games now, conceding thirteen goals in the process – sat in mid-table with nothing left to play for, the Hammers are on the beach!
With Son’s twelve goals and eight assists, despite missing a handful of games a the start of the season – you have to wonder whether Spurs will be fighting off interest from other clubs this summer.
For Gameweek 36, he seems a safe pick for both Starting 11 and FPL teams and should be played with confidence.
Sergio Aguero vs. Burnley (A)
That 2-0 win over Manchester United on Wednesday night means that for the 28th time this season, we have a change at the top of the Premier League table, and it’s advantage Manchester City in the race for the title.
Gabriel Jesus is arguably the leagues best back-up centre-forward, however, he’s no Sergio Aguero and I fully expect the Argentine to start again on Sunday away to Burnley.
No goals during his last four Premier League games now for Aguero, but the chances keep coming and he was unlucky not to score against Manchester Unite, after hitting the post in the second half.
Manchester City’s opponents, Burnley, are on a run of four games without defeat, pulling themselves away from a relegation battle – they have however conceded fourteen goals during their last eight games.
Sergio Aguero is one of those fantasy football assets that’s almost too irresistible to resist when an attractive fixture comes along, and in this weekends action on Starting 11 and FPL I’ll be playing him with confidence.
Aymeric Laporte vs. Burnley (A)
Joining Aguero this week is his fellow team-mate, Aymeric Laporte. Not only is the City defender a nailed on starter for Pep Guardiola, he has also been a stand out performer over the last five weeks, despite two difficult fixtures in Gameweek 35.
Laporte’s four clean sheets during those five games has taken him to sixteen for the season, not to mention the two goals and two assists he has to his name.
With no Champions League football to preserve energy for, Pep Guardiola has his full focus on the Premier League title and cannot risk resting his key players for their remaining three games and given Liverpool’s consistent for this season, Manchester City can not allow any slip-ups.
Burnley have been scoring plenty of goals of late, netting nine in their last four games – however, if Manchester City can keep Spurs and Manchester United quiet, surely they can deal with Sean Dyche’s Burnley?
Owned by only 13.4% on FPL, he’s still a differential in my eyes, yet, don’t expect him to be a shrewd move in Sunday’s daily fantasy football contests on Starting 11.
