Following the changes in the sports betting regulations in the US, sports betting has become legal in several states across the country. Illinois, Colorado, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Indiana, Michigan, Virginia, Iowa, and West Virginia are some of the states to have legalized sports betting following the Supreme Court’s ruling in 2018. That has led to the introduction of some great domestic sportsbooks, such as Sugarhouse and BetMGM but also the introduction of European sportsbooks.
One of the top EU sportsbooks making noise in the US is Bet365. With Bet365 now available in the US, sports betting fans are in for a treat. Bet365 is arguably the biggest online sportsbook in Europe and has been for many years. The brand launched in New Jersey in 2019 with a dedicated mobile app and website and is looking to take on the major domestic brands, including DraftKings and FanDuel. Having partneredwith the Hard Rock Casino, Atlantic City, Bet365 offers a huge selection of sports and markets, with professional and college level US sports on offer including American Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Ice Hockey. Soccer, Darts, Golf,Tennis, Cricket, Boxing, Snooker, Pool, and Rugby are just some of the other sports available at Bet365 in the United States.
In-play betting has long had a significant role to play in the Bet365 offering in Europe and that has extended to the US. You will find plenty of live betting markets available on a daily basis and this is one of the strengths of Bet365.
Moving on and another of the leading EU sportsbooks making noise in the US is William Hill. Interestingly, the Britishbookmaker has had a retail presence in Nevada for some timehaving started operations in 2012. William Hill purchased Lucky’s, Leroy’s, and the satellite operations of Club Cal Neva, for $53 million and each of these was rebranded under the William Hill name. So, when the legislation changed in 2018, William Hill were well placed to begin offering their sports betting services to other states, including New Jersey, Colorado, West Virginia, Illinois, and Rhode Island.
William Hill is available both online and physically in many of the states highlighted above and there are plenty of sports on which to bet. In fact, William Hill comes close to matching the offering found at Bet365 and provides good competition in terms of the EU sportsbooks trying to make it big in the United States.
Unibet have also been making plenty of noise in the US. This online betting company already had a strong presence around the world and is now available in New Jersey, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. Founded in 1997 by Anders Ström in London, Unibet started life by taking bets over the phone before launching the website in 1999. The company made several acquisitions, including Stan James before launching in the US in November 2019.
Unibet has since partnered with the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Eagles, building on their European based sponsorship deals. As a result, Unibet is rapidly becoming one of the major EU players on the US sports betting scene.
