Fantasy Premier League captaincy options for DOUBLE Gameweek 26 are spread thin this week, so let’s narrow it down a little
Welcome back to the ‘Captaincy Picks’ series, where we discuss the top three captain options for the Gameweek ahead, as decided by the results of our Twitter poll.
If you’d like to cast your vote in the Double Gameweek 26 Captains Poll, the link can be found towards the end of this article.
Here’s how things are shaping up for Double Gameweek 26 as things stand:
3. Calvert-Lewin – Everton
vs. Southampton (H) & West Brom (A)| 7.7M | 38.7% owned
With 17% of the vote, Calvert-Lewin sees off competition from Gündogan to secure a place in the top three.
After a short spell on the sidelines, the Englishman made an immediate impact on his return, coming off the bench to win a late penalty at Anfield.
Despite making just 2 starts in the last 4 Gameweeks, only Maja (2.21) and Diagne (2.31) can better his 2.06 expected goals (xG) figure amongst forwards.
He’s notched 9 goals and 1 assist in 9 matches against the current bottom eight teams this season, averaging 6.7 points per game against those sides.
Everton have scored 8 goals in their last 6 matches; just five teams have managed more.
Southampton have shipped league-high totals of 19 goals and 17 big chances in the same timeframe.
West Brom have conceded 12 goals in their last 6 matches; only Southampton (19) have fared worse.
2. Bruno Fernandes – Man United
vs. Chelsea (A) & Palace (H)| 11.6M | 60.4% owned
Bruno Fernandes claims second place, receiving 35% of the vote.
After converting from the penalty spot against Newcastle, the 26-year-old has scored in each of the last 4 Gameweeks, where he’s averaged 11.3 points per game.
No player in any position has taken more shots (15) or landed more efforts on target (8) in that time, while only Raphinha (5) has created more big chances than his 4.
He’s averaged 5.4 points per game against the current top six sides this season, with 1 goal and 2 assists in 5 matches.
Only Grealish has created more chances per game against those sides (3.9 to 3.6)
Chelsea have conceded 7 goals in 5 matches against the top six, though each of those took place before Tuchel was appointed.
Crystal Palace have shipped 10 goals in their last 6 matches, with only five teams allowing more.
They’ve conceded 17 big chances in that time; a figure only matched by Southampton.
1. Harry Kane – Spurs
vs. Burnley (H) & Fulham (A)| 11.1M | 28.5% owned
Edging ahead with 40% of the vote, it’s Harry Kane who leads the poll.
The England captain has directly contributed to 5 goals in 7 matches this calendar year (4 goals, 1 assist), averaging 6.0 points per game.
During that period (GW17-25), no forward has taken as many shots (27), while only Firmino, Bamford (each 21) and Watkins (22) can better his 17 shots in the box.
He’s produced returns in each of the 9 matches he’s played against the current bottom eight teams this season, amassing 7 goals and 6 assists to earn 8.9 points per game.
Spurs have slipped down to 9th in the table, with 5 defeats in their last 6 league matches.
No side have scored fewer goals than their 4 over that period and only Crystal Palace have fashioned fewer big chances (4 to 5).
But they’ve faced four of the top six in that time and meetings with Burnley and Fulham offer them a chance to get back on track
