Fantasy Premier League captaincy picks and tips for the upcoming Gameweek 12 FPL schedule
Welcome back to the ‘Captaincy Picks’ series, where we discuss the top three captain options for the Gameweek ahead, as decided by the results of our Twitter poll.
If you’d like to cast your vote in the Gameweek 12 Captains Poll, the link can be found towards the end of this article.
Here’s how things are shaping up for Gameweek 12 as things stand:
Please note that all players prices and ownership percentages were correct at the time of recording and writing.
3. Harry Kane – Spurs
vs. Palace (A) | 10.9M | 40.5% owned
With 11% of the vote, Harry Kane comes in at number three ahead of a meeting with Crystal Palace.
The England captain has still earned the most FPL points (27) amongst forwards in the last 4 Gameweeks, despite facing three ‘big six’ sides in that time.
He ranks joint-6th for shots over that period (10) amongst players in his position and joint-16th for shots in the box.
But no forward has supplied as many as his 8 attempted assists.
Spurs have scored just 5 goals in the last 4 Gameweeks and only West Brom, Southampton (each 4) and Newcastle (2) have fashioned fewer big chances than their 5.
But although they aren’t creating a wealth of chances, they are undeniably effective and the link-up between Kane and Son continues to catch teams out.
They’re up against a Crystal Palace side that have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 10 league matches.
2. Jamie Vardy – Leicester City
vs. Brighton (H) | £10.3m | 29.6% owned
Jamie Vardy claims second place, receiving over 13% of the vote ahead of Brighton’s visit to the King Power Stadium.
The 33-year-old has earned more FPL points (40) than any other forward in the last 6 Gameweeks, where he’s racked up 4 goals and 3 assists.
Tallies of 11 shots on target and 8 big chances over that period each rank second-best in the league, only behind Bamford (12 and 10 respectively).
Leicester have scored just 4 goals in the last 4 Gameweeks but Vardy has been directly involved in 3 of them (2 goals, 1 assist).
The Foxes rank joint-8th for big chances in that time – with 9.
Brighton rank joint-5th for both goals conceded (4) and big chances conceded (6) over the aforementioned period.
But they’ve shipped 9 goals in 4 matches against current ‘top six’ teams this season, at an average of 2.3 per game.
1. Mohamed Salah – Liverpool
vs. Fulham (A) | £12.3m | 33.8% owned
Striding ahead with over 66% of the vote, Mo Salah has a comfortable lead at the top.
Jurgen Klopp dismissed any suggestion that it was a risk to start him midweek and explained that he stayed on the pitch simply because he “looked fine” and “had no issues”.
The Egyptian scored after just 55 seconds to overtake Steven Gerrard as the Reds’ all-time leading Champions League scorer – with 22 goals.
That was also the fastest goal scored by a Liverpool player in Champions League history.
In the Premier League this season, Salah has amassed 4 goals and 1 assist in 5 away matches, to average 7.6 FPL points per game on the road.
Fulham have conceded 7 goals in the last 4 Gameweeks, with only Sheffield Utd (8) shipping more.
Only West Brom (23) and Leeds (26) have faced more shots on target than the Cottagers (22) in that time and only 4 teams have allowed opponents more big chances (11).
