Win your share of €250,000 in FanTeam’s Champions League Fantasy game

6:50pm Feb 10 2021

The UEFA Champions League is back again and with that comes a great chance of winning a life-changing sum of money by playing Fantasy Football on FanTeam

The Champions League Group stages are fun, but the real action starts now – in the Knockout Rounds, as clubs fight to earn their place in the Final.

Like you, we’re all looking forward to watching the games on our TVs, and it’s even more exciting when you have fantasy football players to cheer for and a chance at winning some serious prize money.

Fantasy football managers now have a chance to put their Premier League and European football knowledge to the  ultimate test in FanTeam’s €250K Champions League Group Stage game, which comes with a guaranteed first place prize of €25,000.

As the name of the fantasy contests suggests, there’s a massive €250,000 in the kitty, with the top 2,513 managers walking away with guaranteed cash prizes.

Here at the Fantasy Football Pundits, we are proud to be continually working with FanTeam and look forward to playing in this amazing contest over the next few months.

FanTeam Champions League 250K prize pool

As you can see from the prize pool image above, FanTeam are paying out the top 2513 teams, with a guaranteed return of €3000+ for finishing in the top 1o.

If ever there was an opportunity to earn money and be rewarded from playing fantasy football, this is it.

So how does FanTeam’s Champions League Knockout Game Work?

It’s basically the same scoring as FPL, but with a few subtle differences that we will outline in our next article, later this week.

You get points for clean sheets, goals, and assists – just like you do in FPL, and your Captain of choice receives double points.

Does that seem familiar to you? If so, to make things even easier, all you need to do is select a team of 11 players, with no bench or subs, using a 90M budget.

Again, we will talk more about creating a team, player prices, fixtures and general strategy in our upcoming articles later this week, but here are a few common questions we are asked:

Q. What about Subs?
A. You don’t have to worry about that, FanTeam’s Safety Net feature will apply.

Q. What is FanTeam’s Safety Net feature?
A. If any player in your team doesn’t start, then another player from the same team, that plays in the same position, will replace them (as long as they’re the same price or cheaper).

Q. How many transfers do I get?
A. Transfers and Wildcards are phased into the game as follows:

Gameweek 2: Phase 16 – 2nd leg

You can make 3 free transfers before this round starts (with a -4 penalty for any additional transfers) and you cannot roll the free transfers to use later.

Gameweek 3: Quarter Finals – 1st leg

You get a Wildcard to adjust your squad and remove the players that have been eliminated. The Wildcard gives you unlimited transfers to use until the Quarter Finals deadline.

Gameweek 4: Quarter Finals – 2nd leg

You can make 3 free transfers before this round starts (with a -4 penalty for any additional transfers) and you cannot roll the free transfers to use later.

Gameweek 5: Semi Finals – 1st leg + 2nd leg + Final

You get a Wildcard to adjust your squad and remove the players that have been eliminated. This is your last chance to make wholesale changes, so try to predict who will make the Final, as once a team gets knocked out, their players won’t be replaced in your team.

So basically, you can completely change your team prior to each stage until the Semi Finals and after the first leg you can make up to 3 free transfers to tweak things.

FanTeam Champions League

How much is it to play?

Entry is just £22.50, or €25 if playing in euros – and if you finish in the top 2,513 places in this game, you will at least get your money back (£31/€35) plus a bit more.

In FPL terms, that sounds like a great rank, but that’s a game of 7.5+ million players. FanTeam have capped this game at 15,000 entries, so 2,513 is a top 17% finish.

To put that into perspective, that’s the equivalent of coming 1,275,000 in FPL, which most players would consider a terrible rank. Right?

Please note: for the purpose of avoiding confusion, UK users will see the entry fee (£22.50) and prize pool money (£225,000) in GBP currency – those outside of the UK will see EURO currency (€25 entry and €250,000 prize pool).

How to get involved?
