FPL and Daily Fantasy Football Punts of the Week - Gameweek 7

7:28pm Sep 28 2018

Does the ‘injury’ to Benjamin Mendy make Leroy Sané a fantasy footy must-have in Gameweek 7?

Wildcard burned and losing ground in your mini-league? Let’s see if any of this weeks fantasy football differentials can help you get back on track in Gameweek 7.

As always, I have scoured through a list of players with a relatively low ownership on FPL in an attempt to unearth a hidden gem or two – so let’s take a closer look at who features in our Punts of the Week article, and why?

Well, I, @FFPundits_Drew, look to provide you with four differential picks for the weekend’s Fantasy Premier League and Starting 11’s Daily Fantasy Gameweek 7 action.

For all you FPL managers out there – as well as those of you playing Starting 11 daily fantasy with us each week, I hope this week’s sections give you plenty of food for thought when locking in your FPL and/or daily fantasy lineups.

He missed out on the World Cup, lacked match fitness during preseason and a was a bit-part player for the opening four Gameweeks – then came the ‘injury’ to Benjamin Mendy.

During Mendy’s absence, Sané has played the full 90 minutes in both Man City’s Premier League games, scoring once and recording an assist.

With Mendy still sidelined with an apparant foot injury, Sané becomes Manchester City’s only fit left-sided player, almost guaranteeing him a place in Pep’s starting 11.

The fixture is also a tempting one – at home to Brighton – a side who have failed to keep a clean sheet all season, conceding eleven goals in the process.

Rested midweek in the Carabao Cup confirmed his importance and whilst owned by only 4.4% of managers on FPL, is Sané the nailed on Manchester City midfielder we have been looking for?

Alexandre Lacazette vs Watford  (H)

After securing himself a starting place in Arsenal’s last three fixtures, fantasy bosses are now opening their eyes to the fact that Lacazette is the Gunner to own – and not Aubameyang, who has been forced out wide.

During those three 90 minute appearances, Lacazette has scored twice and added two assists to his tally for the season.

With a low ownership of only 5.4% on FPL as well as favourable upcoming fixtures, what reason could you possible have for not jumping on-board now?

This weekend’s opponents Watford, who after a strong opening to the season, have failed to win either of their last two games.

Arsenal are now the fourth highest goal scorers this season behind only Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea, and with Watford managing to keep only one clean sheet this season, Lacazette is firmly on the radar.

Rui Patricio vs. Southampton  (H)

Well, I will admit that after watching last weeks punt Joe Hart bringing home a clean sheet as well as some important Starting 11 save points last week – I couldn’t resist another budget goalkeeper for Gameweek 7.

This week it’s Rui Patricio, who formed part of my six man defensive stack on Starting 11 during Gameweek 5 as they beat Burnley 1-0.

Wolves have looked strong lately, with impressive performances against both Manchester clubs as well as wins vs Burnley and West Ham United – I’m expecting another win this weekend vs Southampton.

Although Southampton have Danny Ings returning to the startinv lineup, I’m not convinced the supply he requires from his team mates is sustainable.

Having conceded only two goals in four games, Wolves have proved themselves to be solid at the back and I’m certainly tempted by another six man defensive stack on Starting 11 this weekend.

Willian vs. Liverpool (H)

After high hopes for Willian during preseason, it became clear that it was Pedro who was new manager Maurizio Sarri’s favourite – however, the injury to the Spaniard changes things.

We all know what Willian is capable of on his day – especially playing effectively as a right-sided forward.

His goal and assist during a 22 minutes substitute appearance in Gameweek five highlighted how dangerous the Brazilian international can be.

Chelsea’s 2-1 win on Wednesday night over this weekend’s opponents Liverpool will give them the confidence and belief that they can beat them again,

With Liverpool’s defence more concerned with Hazard repeating his midweek wonder-goal heroics, can Willian (with only 6.1% ownership on FPL) slip under the radar and secure all three points this weekend?
