FPL Captain's Poll - Gameweek 8

1:30pm Oct 3 2019

Is Liverpool’s Mo Salah no longer a top captain contender for your Fantasy Premier League team?

Gameweek 8 - daily fantasy premier league football

It was Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah that topped our Gameweek 7 FPL Captains Poll, but for the 27.27% of you who voted for him, a 6-point return was not what you expected.

The £12.5m FPL asset failed to score against Sheffield United in Gameweek 7, which leaves Salah with only 1 goal in his last 4 Premier League outings.

It’s clear to see why he’s one of the most transferred out players ahead of Gameweek – however, according to most British betting companies, he’s still the 3/1 First Goalscorer and EVENS Anytime Goalscorer favourite against Leicester in Gameweek 8.

Elsewhere, Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham (4pts as captain) took 17.91% of the vote but like Salah, failed to find the back of the net in a fixture which FPL bosses around the world expected to produce solid returns for Abraham owners.

It’s worth noting that Tammy had 4 ‘big chances’ against Brighton, so shouldn’t be written off going forward – especially with upcoming fixtures against Southampton (A), Newcastle (H) and Burnley (A) in Chelsea’s next 3.

Raheem Sterling took 15.41% of the votes in Gameweek 7 and decided to keep FPL bosses sweating until the 84th minute against Everton, where he finally found the back of the net, delivering 14pts for those who captained him.

Sterling has now scored only 1 goal in his last 3 Premier League outings for Manchester City, but with upcoming fixtures against Wolves (H), Crystal Palace (A) and Aston Villa (H), he’s likely to remain a premium captaincy contender, each and every week.

Gameweek 8 Captain Options

Once again, its likely to be the same names and faces amongst the most popular captaincy contenders for Gameweek 8, so we won’t bore you with a breakdown of each player and their fixtures, as you know the drill.

With Wolves travelling to Turkey this week for their Europa League tie with Besiktas on Thursday night, an away game on Sunday for them against Manchester City just sounds cruel, doesn’t it?

FPL bosses are likely to turn towards the likes of Aguero, Sterling and KDB in confidence in Gameweek 8 due to their consistent returns so far this season, but does this mean Mo Salah will now be pushed to one side as a popular captaincy pick?

Harry Kane away to Brighton and Aubameyang at home to Bournemouth are also likely to be popular options this week, with both players scoring in Gameweek 7.

With so many great FPL options this week, it’s likely to leave most of us with a big decision to make this week, but when you do, please be sure to post your vote to our Gameweek 8 FPL Captains Poll below so we can see who you’re siding with.
