Should we keep our faith in Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling for Gameweek 12 clash with old club, Liverpool?

A quick recap of last week’s series – My selected Hotshot in Gameweek 11 Anthony Martial blanked in what was a disappointing performance against Bournemouth.
However, the opportunity to redeem owners presents itself this weekend with the visit of Brighton to Old Trafford.
Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero proved my Sell/Avoid call wrong, when he started and scored in Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Southampton.
This week, ahead of the Gameweek 12 schedule, I (@ohheyystranger) I explore two players who are a hot topic of conversation amongst the Fantasy Premier League community.
Diego Rico – Bournemouth
£4.3m | 13.7% owned | previous FPL fixture – 6 points vs. Man Utd (H)
With thousands of Fantasy Premier League managers losing patience with Man City’s Nicolas Otamendi, going budget at the back is an attractive option to allow us to free up extra funds to invest in premium attacking players.
Bournemouth’s Diego Rico is one budget option who has been steadily racking up the points and has now returned 3 consecutive clean sheets, scoring 19 FPL points.
Rico seems to have cemented his place as Eddie Howe’s first choice left-back, missing out on only 2 matches this season.
Like Trent Alexander Arnold, Rico is also on corner-taking duties, giving him opportunities to add to his tally of 2 assists (just two less than Alexander Arnold) up to Gameweek 11.
At his price point (£4,3m), Rico is excellent value, averaging 4.1 FPL points per game, if compared to premium defenders like Alexander Arnold and Andrew Robertson who are 4.5 and 4.7 respectively.
The Cherries will next face Newcastle at home in Gameweek 12 – a team who average only 8 shots per game on the road.
With upcoming fixtures against Newcastle (H), Wolves (A) and Tottenham Hotspurs, Rico could be the perfect transfer IN for those looking to burn a free transfer, or, to rotate within their FPL squads.
> Verdict: Buy
Raheem Sterling – Manchester City
£12.1m | 38.2% owned | previous fixture – 1pt vs. Southampton (H)
Raheem Sterling massively disappointed FPL managers last week with a 1-point return against Premier League strugglers, Southampton.
However, this was his first blank in 3 matches, and averaged a return of 5.67 in that period, so all’s not lost.
Sterling scored the only goal for Manchester City in the Champions League match away to Atalanta on Wednesday night and also earned the penalty which Gabriel Jesus missed.
The frustration felt by FPL managers most likely stems from Sterling failing to deliver in games where he is expected to show up, and now faces trickier fixtures against Liverpool and Chelsea.
So far this season, Sterling is second in the Manchester City squad for Key Passes per game (behind Kevin De Bruyne) and is fourth in Shots on Goal per game overall, behind only Mo Salah, Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.
With upcoming fixtures against Liverpool (A), Chelsea (H), Newcastle (A) in City’s next 3 Premier League outings, one could forgive FPL bosses for ditching Sterling for the likes of Mane, Pulisic and Maddison, etc.
> Verdict: Hold
