Chelsea’s Frank Lamapard set to be busy in the January Transfer Window, with several key players rumoured to sign.
The news that Frank Lampard must have been waited for finally came in December, as it was revealed the club’s appeal against their transfer ban was lifted.
Lampard will now have the resources at his disposal to bring in the players that he wishes to successfully achieve the goals that were expected from him at the beginning of the campaign.
The minimum requirement would surely be finishing in the Champions League places, while the club would also be delighted if he could successfully secure a piece of silverware.
Chelsea have performed excellently so far this campaign with the young squad that they have, but there may be players on the market that could increase their chances of achieving their season’s goal according to odds-makers. But, which players could be on the radar for Lampard?
If you are a Fantasy Football League player, you might be eager for this Winter transfer window. Maybe one of the following 3 players will be a noteworthy addition, if you believe on Lampard having a positive campaign in the months to follow.
It has been reported that one of the players that could be on the wish-list for the Chelsea boss is their former defender Nathan Ake. The Blues signed the Dutchman from Feyenoord in 2011, before he went on to only make seven competitive appearances at Stamford Bridge.
He was sold to the Cherries in 2017, but, it is believed that the Blues have the first refusal on the 24-year-old and could even sign the central defender for £40 million.
He has been an integral part of Eddie Howe’s side since arriving at the Vitality, and he would seamlessly fit into the way Lampard wants to play. He is strong defensively and is also confident on the ball.
He makes 4.4 clearances per game and has a pass completion rate of 89.6%. He would certainly slot straight into the Blues defence.
Lampard has made no secret about his dedication in getting a deal for a striker over the line in this transfer window, and the outstanding choice would undoubtedly be Napoli’s, Dries Mertens.
Lampard hasn’t seemed content with Michy Batshuayi or Oliver Giroud this season and has admitted either could leave before the end of this window.
Mertens presents not only a player that could seamlessly fit into this team, but also one that may not be priced too high.
The Belgium forward is out of contract in the summer, which means the club may opt to sign him on a free and have his services for next season or try and get a cut-price deal over the line in this window.
He is a striker that could easily play alongside Tammy Abraham as the two could bounce off each other, with the Englishman’s aerial ability seemingly perfect for Mertens who prefers to run in behind.
He has only scored four goals in ten appearances so far this season in Serie A, but he had scored 62 goals in the three-season previously.
The club have been linked with Jadon Sancho throughout January, but it appears unlikely that Borussia Dortmund are going to allow their star winger to leave during the winter window. Thomas Lemar could produce an exciting back-up option for Lampard as he looks to add another winger to his squad.
The Frenchman hasn’t really set the world alight during his time at Atletico Madrid. Lemar only scored three goals in his first season in La Liga, and he has yet to find the net this season.
The move to Spain hasn’t really worked out for the Frenchman, and the Blues could possibly get this deal over the line. In fact, Lemar is to Atletico one of the worst signings of their recent history, and the odds for him to stay are as weak as the odds for the NY Knicks to make it into the NBA playoffs this season.
If they are able to get the very best from Lemar, then they would have a pacey and direct winger that could cause nightmares for opposing defenders.
