Fantasy Premier League bosses lose faith in Man City’s Leroy Sane, with Spurs’ Son Heung-min preferred
It’s mixed fortunes this week for some of most popular assets from earlier in the season, as FPL bosses continue to shuffle their packs with around a third of the season remaining.
Despite Manchester City returning to the top of the league in Gameweek 25, one of their key attacking assets has been ditched by over 200,000 of you ahead of the visit of Chelsea in Gameweek 26, to be replaced by one of the season’s surprise packages at a fraction of the cost.
Here are my thoughts on that, along with the rest of the main transfer activity ahead of Gameweek 26 and as always folks, I wish all of you the very best of luck and may your arrows be green.
Top Transfers IN
Heung-Min Son – £8.8m | 17.5% owned
Son is now firmly established as Spurs’ talisman in the continued absence of Harry Kane, and the South Korean returned from the Asian Cup just in the nick of time to fire his side to victory in Gameweek 24, and again in Gameweek 25.
Leicester visit Wembley in Gameweek 26 having managed just one clean sheet in their last seven, so there is clear potential for Son produce big returns for a third consecutive Gameweek – a view shared by over 331,000 FPL bosses.
At 8.7m, the midfielder, who tends to play in a much more advanced role, is a relative bargain on current form, particularly when compared with Eden Hazard, who remains a more popular selection, despite being £2.2m dearer.
Raúl Jiménez – £6.7m | 30.0% owned
Wolves have been this season’s surprise package, and their lofty league position is due in no small part to the goal and assist contributions of Raul Jimenez.
The Mexican forward follows Son as the second-most transferred in player ahead of Gameweek 26, with a further 168,000+ FPL bosses making their move ahead of Newcastle’s trip to Molineux.
Having outscored the likes of Roberto Firmino and Alexandre Lacazette so far, it’s easy to see why – particularly when he comes at a cost of just £6.7m.
What’s more, with three goals in the last two Gameweeks, that impressive points tally shows no sign of slowing up. Truly one of the bargains of the season and an absolute must-own.
Top Transfers OUT
Leroy Sané – £9.7m | 17.9% owned
With both Son and Jimenez proving immensely popular this week, someone has to make way – and the overwhelmingly popular man for the chop is Leroy Sane, having been dropped by almost 215,000 at the time of writing.
It’s a cut-throat game, and a double Gameweek in which the German winger produced just one point has clearly proved decisive.
What’s more, there are no guarantees over his starting place in what could prove to be a tricky encounter against Chelsea in Gameweek 26, and with Son in such blistering form at a full £1.0m cheaper, this one’s a real no-brainer.
Richarlison – £6.8m | 25.9% owned
Everton’s rotten run continues following two home defeats in Gameweek 25.
Gameweek 26 sees manager Marco Silva and this week’s second-most transferred out player, Richarlison, return to Watford for the first time, as the Toffees travel to Vicarage Road.
Richarlison, who made the switch to Merseyside last summer, has scored just one in seven – a run which has also seen him fail to register any assists.
This disappointing run of form has led to a further 115,000 FPL bosses losing faith in the Brazilian – but we all know what tends to happen when a player faces their former club. So, will those former Richarlison owners be kicking themselves on Saturday night?
The problem with ditching the midfielder is that replacements are in short supply, unless you’re making big changes elsewhere to release some funds. If that’s not an option, Crystal Palace’s penalty king Luka Milivojevic is about as good as you can get in the £6m – £7m region.
