It has to be a Chelsea player, right? Fantasy Premier League Captain Tips & Picks - Gameweek 14

Top fantasy selections from Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs top the captaincy pick charts for Gameweek 14
Each and every week, Fantasy Premier League bosses like you and I are likely to have at least TWO premium players in our team which we’d happily make our gameweek captain.
This week feels like one of those weeks, with the likes of Morata, Kane, Hazard and Manchester City assets looking worthy of the captains armband – but we have to make a choice and sometimes we get it wrong.
Feature writer @FFPundits_Drew has kindly put his top 3 captaincy candidates in order of preference for Gameweek 14, with a Captaincy Gamble thrown in for those looking to go against the grain and roll the dice this week.
As always, from all of us here at Fantasy Football Pundits HQ, we wish you all the very best of luck for the midweek FPL schedule and may your arrows be green.
Alvaro Morata vs. Swansea (H)
As things stand, the Chelsea front man is topping every captains poll we’ve seen on FPL websites and twitter accounts for Gameweek 14, as Chelsea welcome 19th place Swansea City to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening.
Although the Spaniard has scored twice and provided an assist in his last 2 Premier League outings, the decision to captain Morata this week is likely to be based more on the fixture match-up, rather than the form.
Paul Clements’ side are without a win in their last 5 Premier League games, are 19th in the table (only 1 point above Crystal Palace) and allow an average of 14.4 shots on goal per game this season.
With Eden Hazard creating chances and causing havoc to the Swansea defence, Alvaro Morata looks (on paper) to have the best chance of multiple attacking returns in Gameweek 14 and we fancy him to go big!
Mohamed Salah vs. Stoke City (A)
At the time of writing, Mohamed Salah has been transferred IN by over 165,000 Fantasy Premier League bosses for Gameweek 14, taking his overall ownership to the number 1 spot with 47.8%
The £9.7m midfielder is working his way up the captaincy polls this week, which is no surprise really, as the Egyptian international has delivered healthy returns of 7, 16 and 15 points in his last 3 outings.
An away trip to the Bet365 Stadium on Wednesday night under the floodlights is unlikely to effect Salah’s potential returns, with Mark Hughes’ side conceding at least 2 goals in 6 of their last 7 Premier League fixtures.
With Firmino well rested from his absence against Chelsea in Gameweek 13, expect the Liverpool attack to take no prisoners with the leaky Stoke defence, with plenty of goals expected.
Harry Kane vs. Leicester City (A)
Only 50,000 fantasy bosses have ditched the Spurs front-man ahead of their Gameweek 14 clash with Leicester City, but I suspect this number would have been ten-fold had he blanked against West Brom last weekend.
At £12.8m, many of us had hoped for healthier FPL returns so far this season, but it’s his away form against the lesser teams in the table which help us cling on to hope.
Kane has impressively scored 4 braces this season, with 3 of those coming away from home against Everton, West Ham and Huddersfield – the 4th came at home (Wembley) against Liverpool in Gameweek 9, picking up maximum bonus points on each occasion.
Whilst Leicester City may not be considered as a “lesser team” by some, their defensive record so far this season is nothing to write home about, keeping only 3 clean-sheets and conceding 5 in their last 3 outings.
If you own Kane, some say you must captain him due to his price-tag – I have to say I do agree with this train of thought, however, Morata and Salah are just as worthy of the armband in Gameweek 14.
Marcos Alonso vs. Swansea (H)
An attacking defender, who lives in the oppositions half and has the same amount of shots on goals (21) this season as Manchester City’s Leroy Sane. What more is there to say?
Not only is Alonso a top candidate for a clean-sheet in Gameweek 14, he’s also likely to delivery attacking returns from crosses, goals, assists and direct free-kicks.
Owned by only 14.8% of overall teams (many of those will now be ghost teams), the £6.9m defender could still be considered a differential.
If you’re looking to make up ground in your mini-leagues or have given up on taking FPL so seriously this season, why not take a punt on Alonso as your captain and make your Gameweek 14 that little bit more interesting?
