Position Changes for the 2019/20 FPL Season

With a handful of players now playing out of position on FPL, should we be considering them for our fantasy football teams?
After what seems like an eternity ago now, the official Fantasy Premier League game is now up and running; but before you dive straight into the first or 100th draft of your team, there is so much to unpack.
No fewer than ten players have changed position this season and there have been a whole host of price-changes too; some of which are very surprising.
@JoeyJoeGleeson gives us a quick breakdown of some key position=changes for this year’s 2019/20, Fantasy Premier League season.
As with every new FPL season, a number of players have been re-branded into a different position for this years game.
For the 2019/20 season, those at FPL HQ have taken the decision to adjust the positions of no less than ten players.
Some of these moves will be good for the game and others not so much, in my personal opinion.
As we are all aware, to accrue the most points you would preferably like your players to be playing higher than their position suggests; e.g. defenders playing in midfield and midfielders playing as forwards.
For the purpose of those new to the FPL game, goal-points are split up as follows: Forwards receive four points if they find the back of the net, midfielders are awarded five and defenders receive six.
Here are the ten players whose positions have changed this season on FPL:
Deulofeu– (Watford) – MID -> FWD
Jota – (Wolves) – MID -> FWD
Schlupp – (Crystal Palace) – DEF -> MID
Zaha – (Crystal Palace) – FWD -> MID
Perez – (Leicester) – FWD -> MID
Rice – (West Ham) – DEF -> MID
Maitland-Niles – (Arsenal) – MID -> DEF
Masuaku – (West Ham) – MID -> DEF
Ritchie – (Newcastle) – MID -> DEF
Zinchenko – (Man City) – MID -> DEF
With Perez hopefully playing in a supporting role behind Jamie Vardy, I expect big things of him this season. A close eye will be kept on him during pre-season though, with serious consideration in owning him from Gameweek 1.
Wilfred Zaha is another that falls into the OOP category. Whoscored.com state that the Ivorian international was deployed as a central striker 18 times last season for Palace, but will he be an Arsenal player come Gameweek 1?
Man City starlet Oleksandr Zinchenko may have moved back to defence, but I’m not sure I could trust owning him until more news on Mendy’s situation arises.
With Mendy at home (for reasons unknown) whilst his team mates travel to begin their pre-season training and tour, Zinchenko looked nail to start – that was until they recalled Angelino from PSV Eindhoven. Pep rotation incoming?
Newcastle’s Matt Ritchie could be a shrewd move this season in his new position. He’s responsible for most penalties and set-pieces and I believe there’s every chance he’ll top his 110 points returns from last season, IF Newcastle get themselves sorted before Gameweek 1.
Both Deulofeu and Jota have been classified as forwards on the FPL game – we could all see that one coming, but I don’t like it, personally.
Whilst they’re both cheap enablers to afford premium assets elsewhere, I’m confident that Jimenez (£7.5m) is worth the extra investment, with Josh King preferred to Deulofeu for me.
There’s no doubting both players will score plenty of goals and FPL points, but unless they’re playing as outright strikers for the clubs, I personally have no interest in owning either.

Before you go… If you love Fantasy Premier League, and you enjoy taking part in cash leagues with friends and family, how does the chance to win a share of €250,000 sound?
That’s exactly what you can do at FanTeam.com, who are offering a quarter of a million Euro prize pool for their season-long game, which is almost identical to FPL for an entry fee of just €25!
