Raheem Sterling vs Southampton (H)
After the 9-0 humiliation at the hands of Leicester City last Friday evening, what’s the last thing Southampton needed? Two games against champions Manchester City in the space of only five days.
Well they only managed to let three goals in on Tuesday evening in the League Cup, but what will a full strength Manchester City side do to them on Saturday? Raheem Sterling was rested on Tuesday night and is nailed to start this weekend.
I don’t own Sterling over on FPL, something that is a huge concern for Gameweek 11 as he is likely to be the players most managers captain – fortunately he was the first player in my Starting 11 side.
After starting the season scoring five goals during the opening three games, he then went on to score only once during the next six – however the return of Benjamin Mendy has allowed Sterling to moved back to a more central role.
Sterling had been hugging the touch-line, but with Mendy back and almost playing as a winger – Sterling is free once again to roam inside.
I have a feeling Sterling owners are in for a treat on Saturday.
Tammy Abraham vs. Watford (A)
Abraham is becoming an interesting fantasy football player, he exploded into the 2019/20 Premier League season with SEVEN goals in the space of only three games from Gameweek 3 to 5 – however since then he has only produced one goals and three assists from his next five games.
With a dip in form like that you’d expect most fantasy bosses to look elsewhere, but he is the most owned player on FPL and continues to be a popular pick on Starting 11 – with another tempting fixture this week vs Watford you can understand why.
Watford are without a win all season and sit bottom of the Premier League table, Chelsea on the other hand have won their last six games in all competitions scoring fourteen goals in the process – a form team vs bottom of the league, don’t overthink this one.
Benjamin Mendy vs Southampton (H)
Mendy hasn’t exploded back onto the scene like I expected, more of a slow burn as he returns from his injury hit season.
Having watched the game versus Aston Villa last weekend, it was clear Mendy was spending most of his time inside the opposition half – evident from his heap-map courtesy of SofaScore
Vardy and Perez took the headlines last weekend vs Southampton for their hat-tricks – however, another stand-out performance was from left-back Ben Chilwell – a goal, two assists and a clean sheet.
I rate Chilwell highly, but he’s no Mendy – if Chilwell can produce those sorts of attacking returns, then what can Mendy do this weekend from the same position – if he’s in the mood?
Neal Maupay vs. Norwich City (H)
Since Gameweek 3, Maupay has cemented himself into the Brighton starting 11 and scored four goals in the process – this week he faces the struggling Norwich City at home.
No one could believe the shock 3-2 victory Norwich recorded over Manchester City back in September, however since then they have failed to win any of their next five games – conceding twelve goals along the way.
It’s this relegation form of the opposition which helped Maupay catch my eye this week, but when you add to that the fact that Brighton are scoring freely (seven goals during their last three games) and have recorded victories against Spurs and Everton – this fixtures looks like having only one outcome.
With sixteen Premier League teams to choose from this Saturday, many Starting 11 bosses will take advantage of no transfer budgets and look to premium assets – but why not add some excitement take a punt on Maupay this Saturday?
