The FPL Captain's Poll - Gameweek 4

12:00pm Aug 30 2019

Stick with Mo Salah and Raheem Sterling? Or is FPL Gameweek 4 the time for Captain Sergio Aguero?

[Article written and published by @FFPundits_Drew]

The build up to Gameweek three was intense, where over 414k FPL bosses activated their Wildcard chip – the majority of which targeted Harry Kane’s tasty fixture at home to Newcastle as the reason to take the plunge.

For the rest of us, it was a LONG week resisting temptation – especially for those who didn’t own Kane (myself included).

11:30am on Saturday morning arrived and we could do no more – Gameweek 3 was locked in and ready for action.

Below I review how those three premium captain picks fared during Gameweek 3, as well as an early look at who YOU think should wear the captain’s armband for Gameweek 4.

Please remember to place your vote on our Gameweek 4 FPL Captains Poll at the end of this article.

Gameweek 3 Captaincy Review

First up, delivering healthy returns in Saturday’s evening kick-off was Mohamed Salah (15 points) – scoring 2 goal and earning all 3 bonus points during the 3-1 win over Arsenal.

Both Liverpool and Salah have a great goal-scoring record versus Arsenal, but with favourable fixtures elsewhere for alternative premium players in Gameweek 3, captaining Salah took some courage and we applaud those that did.

Those that did take the plunge were rightfully rewarded, but Sterling and Kane were still to come – could they outperform the Egyptian?

Raheem Sterling (8 points) was this week’s most captained player on FPL – certainly the safe pick of the bunch; offering the perfect blend of both form and fixtures. Bournemouth haven’t started well and Sterling has a great record against them.

Manchester City ran out comfortable 3-1 winners, and while Aguero’s brace as well as Harry Wilson’s stunning free-kick might take the headlines, all Sterling captainers cared about was his goal and additional bonus point.

Finally stepped up Harry Kane (2 points), don’t worry Kane owners – I’ll keep this brief.

What was meant to be a dream Gameweek for Kane captainers turned out to be a nightmare, Spurs were awful and Newcastle deserved their 1-0 win.

The Gameweek 4 Captain’s Poll

FPL Bosses, dust yourselves down – we go again!

For me this is the most interesting captaincy decision so far this season. Firstly, we have two premium options in the form of Mo Salah vs. Burnley and Raheem Sterling vs. Brighton;  both in great form – both scoring goals and both have favourable fixtures on paper.

Although, after scoring FOUR goals during the opening three Gameweeks, is it time to revert back to our old FPL favourite, Sergio Aguero?

Priced the same as team-mate Sterling but with the additional of penalty duty, I must admit – he’s the player I WISH I owned this week.

For the first time this season there is the opportunity to make up some ground with a differential captain pick, in the form of current FPL top point scorer Teemu Pukki – who has proven that we really should follow form over fixtures with our fantasy picks.

Norwich travel to West Ham on Saturday, the Hammers have conceded highest number of big chances so far this season (13) – admittedly that is party due to them having already faced Manchester City, however we expect Pukki to add to his FIVE goals for the season.
