The top six spots will be a rollercoaster ride in Premier League

Back in the depths of winter, it appeared that it was anybody’s game to win the Premier League. Now, here we are in the middle of February, and Manchester City is in cruise control. Pep Guardiola’s squad has created a seven-point lead at the top of the standings.

If everything holds, Manchester City will walk away with their third title in the last four seasons.

Since the title race is no longer close, it’s time to shift our focus to another table: the European spot. Looking at the league table isn’t a true reflection of the standings because some teams have played fewer matches than others.

Some teams have played 24 matches, while others have played 22.  The best bet on sports claims the data is leading us to believe that other teams will come out on top. Let’s take a look.

The top six

For now, there are four points between Liverpool, in fourth place, and Tottenham, in ninth place. Arsenal trails Tottenham by two points after their victory over Leeds. Manchester City has one more game with Leicester but the lead has been stretched far enough.

To start, Manchester City has a 98% chance of winning the title. According to the odds, the team is predicted to finish 18 points ahead of the runner-up. That runner-up is predicted to be Manchester United. After tying West Brom, the team all but lost their chance to hoist the title. Their ceiling for points on the season is 71 points.

Following Manchester United is Liverpool. The team has been hovering around the top-3 in standings all season but has not ever finished with enough quality wins to put themselves in the position for title contrition. In fourth, the predictions say Leicester will finish one point behind Liverpool, but one point ahead of Chelsea. Rounding out the predictions will be West Ham in sixth place.

Fallen on hard times

Everton was once the co-leader in the Premier League but has fallen off the tracks. After starting the season 3-0, Everton finished with a draw to Liverpool. Then, Everton fell to Southampton 2-0 on October 25th. Their recent win over Liverpool has Everton in seventh place but at 12-8-4 on the season, it’s been a downhill slide since starting the season off so well.

Everton is a combined 0-3 against Manchester United and City. Everton will get another chance against Manchester City on March 20th. With the way the season has been going, that looks like it will be another loss.

Conclusion

It will take a lot for Manchester City to lose the title. The more exciting race will be seeded two through six. To be fair, nothing is a given when it comes to the Premier League but we are about to witness a true dynasty. The last time we saw this type of greatness was when Manchester United won four titles in five seasons from 2007-2011.
