Premium Premier League players you’ll want to own for the new 2020-21 FPL season
The 2019/20 Premier League is done and dusted and hopefully, it proved to be a fruitful campaign for you.
With just weeks to go until the new season begins, Fantasy Premier League football managers have very little time to draft up who they want to include ahead of the 2020/21 FPL campaign.
However, we have decided to take an early look at three players who are our must-haves, if you can fit them into your budget.
Timo Werner – Chelsea
Chelsea has already been very busy in the summer transfer market, with the pick of their signings so far being German striker Timo Werner.
The London club has splashed out £48 million on the 24-year-old and he looks to be money well spent.
Werner scored 95 goals in 159 appearances for RP Leipzig. 28 of those goals came in the Bundesliga last season. There were a host of leading European clubs linked with the German, however, it was the West London club which won the race for signature.
Chelsea has been desperate for a number nine over the last couple of seasons. Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham have done ok, however, Werner is definitely a huge upgrade in that position.
Frank Lampard’s side was in good form at the end of last season going forward. They scored nine goals in their four Premier League matches. Their big problem has been at the back as they have shipped in too many goals.
Christian Pulisic, and Mason Mount are two young players who seemed to be getting better with every game. They will be supported by the new signing Hakim Ziyech next season. Werner should be the main benefactor from those exciting midfielders.
Raul Jimenez and Mason Greenwood were included in the FPL Team Selection in gameweek 38 and neither of those two strikers would be bad selections next season.
Werner, though, has a great chance of winning the Golden Boot in his opening campaign in England. He is a natural goalscorer and should get off the ground running from the early stages of his Chelsea career.
Bruno Fernandes – Man United
Since arriving at Old Trafford in January 2020 for around £67 million, Bruno Fernandes has transformed Manchester United. Not only have his goals and creative play been invaluable, but he has also given the rest of the squad a huge lift.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have the benefit of having the Portugal international from the start of the campaign next season. As of the 5th August, Manchester United are 9/1 in the Premier League outright market with Betway next season.
Without Fernandes, those odds would likely be much bigger. Regardless, Fernandes needed no time to adapt to English football and made his presence known immediately.
He scored eight goals and assisted three times in his 14 Premier League appearances so far. His strike-rate could be even better next season as United are a team on the up.
The United midfielder was added to a lot of fantasy managers’ teams at the back end of last season. The Portuguese player takes penalties, free-kicks, and operates in an advanced role.
In the 2018-19 campaign, he netted 33 goals in all competitions for Sporting Lisbon. Although that number may be too much to ask, it would be no surprise if Fernandes found the net 20 times next season.
Kevin De Bruyne – Man City
Kevin De Bruyne is on a different level to any other player in the Premier League at the moment. The Manchester City midfielder matched Thierry Henry’s record of 20 assists last season.
If he stays fit, it is hard to see any other player scoring more fantasy points in the Premier League in the 2020/21 campaign. De Bruyne is likely to be the most expensive player in the league next season, but this should not put you off taking the Belgium international.
If you do not choose De Bruyne to be your captain in the majority of the game weeks next season, you will be making a big mistake. Along with Raheem Sterling, De Bruyne was one of the popular captain picks and tips last season.
There will be weeks where he will pick up between 20-30 points. Make the most of his excellence, otherwise, your opponents will.
The Premier League has set the 12th September as the date for the opening games of the new campaign so remember to submit your teams ahead of the deadline.
