Manchester United’s Anthony Martial looks to be a hot-buy ahead of Gameweek 10 clash with Everton
Perhaps the best way to describe a lot of this season’s FPL big names is ‘hit and miss’, with many of them playing that funny old trick of blanking just when their ownership starts to peak, and firing just after you’ve made your big moves. Maybe patience really is a virtue?
Looking ahead to Gameweek 10, the main transfer activity so far indicates that this will be yet another fascinating weekend of FPL, with tens of thousands of you making some bold moves.
But, will it be a masterstroke? Or will the following transfers fall into the category of ‘panic changes’? Only time will tell…
So, without further ado, here are my thoughts ahead of Gameweek 10. As always, I wish all of you the very best of luck.
Martial – £7.3m | 108K+ transfers IN
After starting in just two of the opening seven Gameweeks, Anthony Martial has hit a mini purple patch, having scored three in the last two Gameweeks.
This excellent spell – which also includes an assist – has prompted over 100,000 FPL bosses to bring the Frenchman in from the FPL wilderness ahead of Manchester United’s Gameweek 10 clash with Everton at Old Trafford.
At £7.3m, the former Monaco man is not likely to break the bank, so represents a reasonable gamble in that respect.
That said, United are so lacklustre going forward – particularly in front of their own fans – that I wouldn’t personally have any faith in any of their attacking players to deliver solid returns on a consistent basis.
Of course, it remains to be seen how this one pans out long term, but I have a feeling that this particular ship may have already set sail.
Aubameyang – £10.8m | 100k+ transfers IN
On a personal level, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang has been the bane of my FPL season so far. Anyone else out there in the same boat? I feel your pain!
In the last two Gameweeks, the Gabon international has played less than an hour’s worth of football, and yet he’s racked up an astonishing 27 points. Madness.
Gameweek 10 sees Arsenal travel to face a Crystal Palace side who are on a rotten run of form, having lost three on the bounce – so this is a great opportunity for the Gunners to continue their impressive start to life under Unai Emery.
That said, will Aubameyang start at Selhurst Park? It’s anyone’s guess. Does it even matter? It appears not. Over 93,000 FPL bosses at the time of writing haven’t been deterred, and who can blame them?
Who’s NOT? (hot)
Alexander-Arnold – £5.1m | 93K+ transfers OUT
Trent Alexander-Arnold has sat out each of Liverpool’s last two Premier League fixtures, which has made over 90,000 FPL bosses ditch the young full-back at the time of writing.
With Cardiff being the visitors to Anfield in Gameweek 10, there’s every chance of a clean sheet coming his way if indeed he is recalled to the Reds’ line-up.
Given that he was part of a backline that kept five clean sheets in the opening seven Gameweeks, there’s no reason to assume that this spell on the sidelines is likely to be prolonged.
That said, nothing puts the cat among the pigeons quite like a bit of squad rotation as far as FPL bosses are concerned, and many are clearly not prepared to take that risk.
Kane – £12.5m | 100K+ transfers OUT
I’ve learned to be very careful when using the term ‘no brainer’ in this weekly blog – but this one is pretty close.
At the time of writing, over 95,000 FPL bosses have ditched Harry Kane ahead of Spurs’ Gameweek 10 clash with Manchester City, and whilst the England forward isn’t necessarily under-performing, it’s difficult to justify the £12.5m price tag – especially with such a tough fixture on the immediate horizon.
What’s more, with the Arsenal duo of Alexandre Lacazette and the aforementioned Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang both in such devastating form, as well as the evergreen Sergio Aguero, there’s huge reason to look elsewhere and release some funds in the process.
