Who’s HOT & Who’s NOT - FPL Gameweek 22

The shackles have been taken off Marcus Rashford since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived at Old Trafford, and now FPL bosses are now piling in to him
Happy New Year Fantasy Premier League bosses! Normality returns following the festive fixture pile-up – hopefully it was green arrows galore for you and you’re now sitting pretty with less than half of the season left to play.
This week, the new kids are in town, as two players who were flavour of the month just a few weeks ago have been left behind in 2018, with FPL bosses seemingly keen to follow the post-Christmas form.
So, without further ado, here are my thoughts on that ahead of Gameweek 22. As always, I wish all of you the best of luck.
Ricardo Pereira vs. Saints (A)
A recent flurry of points from Leicester’s Portuguese full-back has tempted over 145,000 FPL bosses to get on board ahead of the Foxes’ Gameweek 22 clash against Southampton.
The Saints failed to score for the first time since the arrival of Ralph Hasenhuttl in their Gameweek 21 draw at Chelsea, and so clean sheet points for Leicester’s defensive assets perhaps isn’t as nailed on as it would have been previously.
That said, at £5.3m, Pereira is certainly a cost-effective option, and is outperforming several more expensive defensive assets – so he’s most definitely one to keep an eye on if you’re not quite convinced yet.
Marcus Rashford vs. Spurs (A)
The shackles have been taken off Marcus Rashford since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived at Old Trafford, and the young England forward has repaid the faith shown in him with three goals and two assists in his last four.
Unsurprisingly, over 170,000 FPL bosses are striking while the iron’s hot and getting on board ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Wembley to face Spurs in Gameweek 22.
For many, the likes of Kane, Aubameyang and Aguero are out of reach, and so Rashford’s recent form could be a season-redeemer if he can maintain his current form, at a cost of £7.3m.
Spurs represent United’s biggest test since their change of management – so big returns from the young forward should be seen as a bonus rather than an expectation this time around – but looking long-term, he looks to be slowly developing into a must-own.
Who’s NOT? (hot)
Felipe Anderson vs. Arsenal (H)
FPL bosses can be a fickle bunch – particularly when the competition begins to hot up. Who’s ever made a series of ‘rage transfers’ on a Sunday night after an underwhelming Gameweek? Come on, we’ve all done it!
As tempting as that can be, I think it may come back to haunt the 115,000+ FPL bosses who’ve made the decision to ditch Felipe Anderson after two barren Gameweeks.
With a defensively-troubled Arsenal side the visitors to the London Stadium in Gameweek 22, there’s potential for the Brazilian to return to form.
Additionally, as an Anderson owner, it’s a real struggle to find anyone at £7.4m or less who I’d trust to provide strong returns over a prolonged period, as West Ham’s record signing has done in recent months.
So, on that basis, this one gets a thumbs down from me.
Richarlison vs. Bournemouth (H)
Everton are desperately struggling for form, and that has no doubt played on the minds of many of the 110,000 who’ve given up on Richarlison ahead of the Toffees’ Gameweek 22 clash with Bournemouth at Goodison.
As with Felipe Anderson, I fear those trigger-happy bosses may have jumped the gun a bit too early with this one – particularly with the Cherries’ shambolic recent defensive record.
Current form suggests that there will be goals at both ends here, and Everton’s winger-turned-striker remains their most likely candidate to find the net.
Of course, no returns in two Gameweeks is frustrating, but perhaps not a great surprise considering the sheer amount of minutes the key players are often asked to play over the festive period.
Again, I’m keeping the faith with the former Watford man for another Gameweek at least.
